I had my Pocket PC stolen on newyears eve. I thought I would never see it again dispite knowing who stole it. After a few threats to the lads father it finally got returned. No it was BLANK like factory fresh and the CF/SD cards had been formatted in a PC. Now my question is what are the benifits of WM6 on an X50v ?
I did dabble with WM5 when it first came out but that was with all the slowdown issues befor they were sorted.
So my real question is:- Is it worth upgrading wo WM6 or not, I only use the pocketPC casually and for light gaming (bit of tony hawks 3D) ?
You're probably better off sticking with WM2003SE. The 50/v isn't configured for the persistent-memory storage offered by WM5/6 and, quite frankly, the feature set of 5/6 isn't compelling enough to trade off WM2003SE stability, at least on a 50v.
I agree with CB. The only problem is making sure you have all the software you'll need. Much of the new stuff will not work with WM2003SE.

I use my x50v primarily as an MP3 player and since WM6.1 supports SDHC cards, I love it. I use it in my car so it's almost always got external power and I don't really see any slow-down. Install everything on the SD card and the memory / compaction problems are less.
makuu has been working on small patches to his X50v WM6.1 ROM, all in an attempt to subdue that incessant ROM difficulty. His progress may warrant a second look.
Which Axim models had persistent memory in the original version?
I am tired of losing data on my X5 and would like to get X50 or 51 (don't need v) whichever has persistent memory.

Persistent memory starts with WM5, so you need X51.
The X50 series and earlier were WM2003 and below.
at this point I know that persistent memory starts with WM5 and 6, and only the 51 can handle persistent memory, despite that, can you in fact install WM6 on a 50v? If yes, what will happen as a result of the 50v not being able to handle persistent memory? WM 6.1, or 6.0 only?
Thanks
You can install both WM6.1 and WM6 on a x50v. The only downside is that if the battery drains completely and it is left like that for a few hours, your x50v will hard reset.
