how do I safely clean my pda screen?

info needed,please
I need to clean my dell axim x51v pda screen. How do I do this safely?
I have found (finally) the make yourself screen protectors info.
No one carries the screen protectors in stores anymore.
I want to clean the screen before putting a cover on it.
Any help and/or info will be much appreciated. Thanks.

I just use my hot breath to fog up the screen (which has a screen protector on it) and wipe it off with a dry very soft cloth handkerchief. I do the same to the original screen prior to putting on a new screen protector. :approve:

I just use a glass cleaner/polish to clean my screen and make it slick for stylus use. I spray a small amount onto a paper towel and then clean the screen. I never spray the screen directly, to prevent getting fluid into the guts of my x51v.

I dampen a piece of microfiber cloth, squeeze out as much excess moisture as possible and wipe the screen.

srvctec: I recently read a thread from a user who seemed to mess up their screen by using glass cleaner and I would never, ever use a paper towel or any other paper product on the screen. Paper is made out of wood and there are small wood fibers in paper that could scratch the screen - learned that when I started wearing glasses and was cautioned by the optician about using paper towels to clean my glasses.

I agree. Never use any paper towel, even a tissue, to clean any glass. It could easily scratch it!

I should have clarified and listed the exact name of the product I use. It's Brillianize. We've used it at work for at least 15 years for cleaning/polishing the glass on the copiers we service. It's not a glass cleaner like Windex or other harsh cleaners, which is why I specified "cleaner/polish". It makes the surface slick, which is exactly what is needed when using a stylus for writing on the screen. I also have a BoxWave screen protector on my screen that's been there for nearly 2 years.

I've used a paper towel to clean my screen (with a screen protector in place) for over 2 years and will continue to do so, since the screen protector isn't scratched at all from this cleaning method. I figure if it isn't causing me any problems, then it shouldn't cause others problems, but maybe that's what I get for thinking. All I have to go by is my own experience.

edit: OOPS! Just noticed the OP wanted to know how to clean before putting on screen protector. That's what I get for skimming too fast through a post.

Sorry, I forgot to say why I need to clean my pda.
fell asleep reading via my pda and woke up sleeping on it.
the result of my sleeping on it is a very oily screen.
my example of the oily look is this:
when you lean on a glass table or a glass case in a store with your arm and you peel your arm off you leave an oil print behind.
Or when a kid and/or dog touch a glass window or sliding door and you get those smears on the glass, like an oily smear.

that is what my screen looks like.

:scratch_h how do I remove the smudged screen look.
it is very noticeable when you tilt the screen in the light.
would like an original screen look or as near as possible, please.

Isopropyl alcohol 50/50 mix with filtered water+jewelers cloth or microfiber cloth. You can use Q-tips to apply it if you're completely nutso about it. :D

Sorry for the late reply because we were gone on vacation. my mom has 70% Isopropyl alcohol not the 50/50 mix. my dad has an old lens cloth made for cleaning camera lenses he will let me have. we have Q-tips also. where and/or how do you get the filtered water?
please give detailed as in step by step instructions, since never having cleaned something like this before I do not want to wreck and/or fry my x51v because of never having done this before.:o
I just bought screen covers from the stores before. went looking and not there in the stores anymore. :(
