It's time for hard decision. I have a Axim x51 fully functional with WM 5 rom a01. I hate windows mobile so much. The decision i have to made is : must i put this piece of hardware to the trash?
I go around the net to try to find a way to upgrade to WM 6 without success. I looked at some way to put Android on it without more success. I look at Ubuntu mobile and other linux OS again without success.
Is it me or this great hardware is impossible to upgrade and is a piece of crap?
I think it's time to throw it away and never buy DELL mobile product.
If you don't want it, I'll gladly take it off your hand.

Thanks guys for the offer :-). If i decide to put it in the trash, i will destroy it and burn every part to be sure that the worst gadget that i bought will disappear from the face of the earth :-)

It does happen sometimes that, no matter how good the designers think their product is, it just doesn't work as expected.
I've been searching for years, I've tried hundreds of brands, shapes and designs but still, every hammer I have bought manages to miss the nail and hit my thumb.
One day perhaps they will get it right.
Box, you're right about designer. It's good hardware but WM 5 is a big problem. An other problem is the fact that DELL let their customer on their own. Imagine if DELL put some money to finance an open source OS (can android or linux). Is it too late?
This kind of work give me hope but WM is still in background :-)
I'll gladly buy it off you for dirt cheap (>= $25) so that I can have a testing machine for a new (Windows Mobile) X51 rom and a linux kernel/functioning gui for X51 (I have enough experience with linux and I also know someone I can go to for help if I get stuck).

Its a microsoft thing, you either like them or you hate them. I always liked having wm2003se on my x50, b/c there was so much software out there that could be used, especially a lot of older freeware. Well noe you cant run new software on 2003se, but all the old stuff still works fine. It can play a bunch of games, i can do any office document in softmaker, it can still browse the web with Opera/PIE, and TCPMP makes it a multimedia machine. And this is on 2003se an os that is OLDER than wm5. Wm5 is still compatible with almost everything. So why call this crap, unless you just want to stir up controversy.
Im one of those people that loves putting old tech to use. I take throwaway computers that are usually bogged down with a bad windows install, and clean the HDs up, add some ram, and you got yourself a fast old machine. So even if my axim is 10 years old, if its still running, ill find a use for it.
