Aximsitex50icon x51V OS/SDHC update options

Hey guys,

I can't wait any longer not having any SDHC on my x51v, so much so, I gave the HP 211 a try and it just didn't perform and didn't look as good (screen sharpness) as the axim does.

I have the stock x51v with the factory wm5 OS. Should I update to wm6? If so which one? Which is the most reliable, and has the lowerst probability of getting a dead brick?

Do all wm6 OS for the x51v have SDHC compliability? I MUST HAVE SDHC!!! :)

So, please post which solution you would recomend and why...

Thanks,
ztdztd

Custom roms have had SDHC support for some time now.

Makuu's WM6.1 VOIP rom for x51v (see XDA developer upgrade forum) is more fully featured and slightly less buggy than competing alternatives such as Lennysh's L11 WM6.1 rom (HTC Geeks x51v forum). Both are roughly as fast and reliable as the other.

It's a judgement call based on taste and usage.

If you have the stock WM5 ROM, you can use the SDHC driver found here. The downside is that it only recognize half of the space over 4GB. For example, if I have a 8GB SDHC, you will only be able to utilize 4GB of it.

As for WM6, please read this post: Experimental/Beta WM6.1 ROMs for Axim X51v. Please use the Search function next time!
All WM6.1/WM6 ROMS have full SDHC capability. They will be able to utilize the full amount of space.

I would use Lennysh's L11 to be honest. This is the one that most poeple are running. When Im say most people I mean those running WM6 & WM6.1. Makuu's seems to have had some issues in the past but maybe they have been addressed.

Holy moley ... I finally slapped in an 8gb sdhc card in my x51v with Lenny's WM6.1 rom ... and I see all this beautiful storage space.

It has really breathed new life into my Ax (Lenny's 6.1 and sdhc)

As Nike would want you to say "Just do it, baby!"

Hello,

Thank you all for your replys, I believe that Lennysh's update is the way to go. I still have some questions:

1) What is the best version of Lennysh's upgrades?
2) What are the known problems/bugs/downsides with it?
3) Anyone try a 16gb SDHC card using Lennysh's upgrade? (I'm all about storage space)
4) Has anyone got a dead brick in the process of installing it? Is there a way to "revive" it if it bricks?

I would really appreciate it if you could reply to these questions... thank you.

Regards,
ztdztd

1. Here's the L11 version, which was mentioned by several people. I use it currently: here.
2. The only but I found was the stupid battery door bug. But that may just apply to me.
3. I have a 16GB Sandisk Extreme II SDHC running fine. Also, a 16GB Kingston CF running. Both 16GBs are fully usable
4. It's extremely rare you would brick it while flashing. Just don't let the Axim run out of power. Yes, there are ways to "revive" a brick.

Thank you John,

I wave been hearing that a L12 version of Lenny's ROM is in beta right now, what is the difference between L11 and L12? Should I wait for the L12 to be released?

Regards,
ztdztd

Please do not use L12 as of now. As a beta tester, even I feel it is unstable.
Alphas (I believe?) are extremely unstable and may brick your device.
Once you flash L11, you can always flash L12 when it comes. Just remember to backup and restore!

Based on Lenny, I think the main difference is a faster speed with L12. Even with L11, it is extremely fast!

No need to wait for L12. It's an alpha version of WM 6.5, quite buggy, and L11 will do everything you need, especially big SDHC cards.

L11 is the most stable release, even though some people swear by A07. I used a pny 16 gb sdhc with no problems.

People brick their devices for 2 reasons: 1) They run out of power when flashing, 2)They flash the wrong rom for their device, don't do either and you should be fine. Prior to my flash, I always fully charge battery, and put it on in the cradle with the usb disconnected from my desktop, while it is flashing to ensure I don't run out of power.

I actually flashed back to L12 the extra speed is nice, and the bugs are liveable for now, Im not losing much by losing my cf card, and it seems as though someone may be close to solving that. Don't get me wrong L11 isn't slow by any means, L12 is a tick faster.

Sure, I assumed you installed the SDHC driver.
