Exclamation Help Needed!! (Again.)

Okay, I really need help right now! Here's what happened:

1.) I dropped my Axim a week or two ago. Total accident, and it didn't seem to do any damage, other than the four buttons and the D-pad on the bottom didn't work anymore. I wasn't too worried, feeling fairly sure I could go into the settings and make them work again, although I never actually tried.

2.) Kept using my Axim as normal for some time, just without the hard buttons.

3.) Two days ago, I went to turn it on after a night charging and it gave me some error about memory corruption, saying to press one of the hard buttons to try and fix it, or else try and do a hard reset. Lo and behold, none of the hard buttons worked!

4.) Since I couldn't make it try and fix it, I (stupidly) tried to do a hard reset, but that also required me to press a hard button to confirm the choice.

I have tried literally everything I know how to do since then. I have removed the battery and replaced it again. I've tried locking and unlocking it, turning it off and on again ... everything in my repertoire. Now I need your guys' expert help.

Is there some way I can get around the hard reset prompt, somehow? Or something? I don't have a clue what to do now, and I really need my Axim right now...

Maybe the hard buttons on the side work (You didn't mention them).
Try getting into the diagnostic mode and testing the buttons

1. Press the Power button + Record button
2. While holding the two, tap the reset hole
3. Wait for a screen to pop up
4. Release the Power button + Record button
5. Follow instructions as prompted

Report back to us about which buttons work

Good idea, but the Ax is still stuck on the hard reset confirmation screen. I tried the Record + Power + Reset process (multiple times), and the screen consistently goes black for a few seconds, then just reverts back to the annoying hard reset message.

However, the Wireless and Record buttons do still work.

It sounds like dropping your axim has caused the buttons to become either disconnected or have moved so the physical button misses them when pressed.

I would be opening it up and checking any connectors and reseating the button switches.

I think your unit is toast. The only electronic device that I know of that will take that kind of fall and keep working is a SSD. Hope I am wrong, for your sake. :approve:

Really, I'm willing to try just about anything at this point ... the last thing I need right now is to have to shell out $200 on yet another mobile device, when I just bought my Axim a few months ago.

Okay, Box, so how would I go about opening up an Axim and poking around inside? Any more specific suggestions?

Take it apart, theres a connector at the bottom of the board that comes undone easily. It's right next to the button contacts, and needs reseated. I've had to do this a few times, it's relatively easy. Hopefully thats all it is, I've gotten the odd memory error from time to time on different axims, they seemed ok after a hard reset, might want to backup first.

Bookmark this you might need it later, its a great video reference for axim x51v take apart.

KimChee has given you the perfect link, I can't think of anything more specific than that excellent video from bernardm.
