Question Need info regarding sd/cf cards for axim x50v mobile

Please can anyone answer???

I bought a used dell axim x50v on ebay I have never had one before.

After receiving it, I learned that prior owner changed it to a mobile 6 classic..

Well, I dont know what that all means but it works great..as far as I know (that not being much):rolling:

my search for info, is driving me nuts, I dont seem to understand alot of this, I need your help please...

I would like to buy some memory cards for it, after reading info out there, it left me more confused then ever..:jd:

it has 2 slots, one for sd and one for cf...hmm

can anyone tell me for sure what is the brand and the maximum memory I can use in this thing for both, SD and Compact Flash..

Please realize I have no idea what will work in this and not...but I want alot of memory for both slots...
Thank you very much

First - Welcome to Mobilitysite. Lots of good info and ppl here.

Second - Here's a link you need to read thru for the memory cards: Storage Card Compatibility List

You may want to search thru some of the other threads to see what other ppl are using based on what you want to do. One thing to keep in mind is transferring files to these cards. ActiveSync is very slow and sometimes crashes when trying to load large files from your PC to the AX. I'd suggest getting a card reader that plugs in to you PC (USB) and plug the SD or CF card into it for file transfers. :)

Thank you for the welcome...
I have read alot here, and see alot of people use so many different cards
that is what is confusing me, because some say you can and some say
you cannot...
I think I've learned that since this was changed to a mobile 6 classic that
maybe it will take larger cards but then again, I'm not sure about that
either...because some say your computer wont see it or something..
I have a windows Vista, and mobile sync that works fine. new computer only a year old.

on this computer, it has the slots to read the cards already...on the tower..it will read
anything..it a hp pavillion 6300..

but I'm still confused here too...

as of today, I believe I can use any CF card size, but come to understand if I'm right that maybe not all memory will be used if I use a 32GB card...maybe it uses some of it for something.

Sd card I think I can only use 2GB only, I read that there was a 4GB SD card only that would work but none out there that I can find..

SDHC I dont think will work on this, even tho, it has been changed to a mobile 6 classic, I read so much about that, well, my head started to spin...and I'm just not sure, maybe it would work, but the thing is, I cannot go and buy all these different cards to see if they will work or not, I need to know for sure...

Still confused...

Thank you for trying.. :)

I have to say SD and CF is a jumbled mess for Axim. You are correct that some cards work and others do not.

To the bottom line:
CF any size easily works. I have a 16 GB Kingston CF, works fine. Most programs can recognize all 16GBs of that card. AFAIK, the only program that doesn't recognize 16GB is Garmin's MapInstall. It only does 4 for some odd reason. I can infer 32GB works.

SD is a whole another story. SD itself, goes up to 2GB, works fine with Axim. But SDHC is troublesome. If you have the experimental WM6.1 ROMs, it can recognize up to (correct me if I'm wrong) 16 GB. I have not bothered to look for a 32GB SDHC card. But some SDHC cards DO NOT work at all with the Axim. I suggest you stick with the mainstream names like Sandisk, Kingston, Transcend, etc...

I've got a Transcend CF card, 16 GB, x133. Got some videos & MP3 on it. Works great. When I need to copy files to it, I stick it in the card reader.

I've never had one of these pda's before am just learning it, but, it came as is...
it is a good little thing, works great, I had no idea about all these different things
out there that people can do to these things, I just wanted one for music and esword, and pictures
and maybe a game or two, dont even know how to put a movie or video or anything like that
I just figured out how to put my cd's onto it (from someone who has never done that before)
where do you even get movies for something like this????????

as far as the memory and what was done to this prior to my buying it, well, what's done is done, and I just want to buy memory cards for it, and hopefully learn alittle more about it, like how to get some movies, if you can? hmmm

I need to get some memory cards for it tho..so one thing at a time...memory cards that will work for sure...
thank you :)

hi, it is very confusing about these sd cards, what so confusing is that this was changed to
a mobile 6, and I had no idea what that meant, but, I sure am now...

but, from what I am learning is, maybe that changes what kind of SD cards it can use...

Still learning..
Thank you :)

If your PC already has the SD & CF card slots, you don't need a reader. :)

When you post here, it always goes to the bottom of the thread. :)

If someone you know has digital camera that uses SDHC card, perhaps you can borrow it and see if your Axim will be able to read it. As a precaution, back up the flash card first.

As for videos, I put episodes of Tekzilla or Systm on the card. Helps pass the time when I'm waiting to have my car serviced & etc. Episode #84 of Systm talks about transferring movies to the PC. It's on Revision3.com. Check it out when you've sort out the memory card issue.

Good luck.

A Card Reader is the Slots on your PC that you mention in your second post.
