Axim X51v wireless connectivity problem

Hi,

My Dell Axim X51v was working fine in terms of wireless connectivity until a few days back. When I would try to connect to a new wireless network, it would ask me the password for the new network. Now it doesn’t connect to any network. What could have gone wrong?

Here are the symptoms I am observing.

1. The connectivity icon (two opposite facing arrows) at the top right corner of the screen includes a cross mark (to the left of the speaker and time).

2. The Site tab of the WLAN utility shows all wireless networks nearby, however nothing happens if I click on any of them. Also the Status box on the tab shows ‘scanning network.’

3. On the Config tab of the WLAN utility, the Pref SSId and BSSId fields are blank. The signal quality box is empty, and a No Signal text is on.

4. In the advanced tab: Authentication = Open System, IP address =0.0.0.0, Net Mask =0.0.0.0. The MAC address of the device is shown.

Thanks,

MG.

Sounds like Wi-Fi is on (i.e. green light's blinking). Try tapping on the connectivity icon & select "Turn on flight mode". Then tap on the Connectivity icon again. But this time it should say "Turn off flight mode". Tap on that. This should allow you to connect again.

chout,

Thanks. I tried that but nothing changed. Turning on/off the filght mode basically turns the WLAN function on/off.

Turn off your Wifi
Soft Reset your axim
Turn Wifi on.

If it doesn't automatically connect,
go to the Wlan Utility first page,
Tap on the big "Settings" button
Tap and hold on the Router Name that you want to connect to and select Connect.

In addition to Box's suggestion, you might want to 'remove settings' for some of the networks listed on the settings page. I would leave any that you regularly connect to that have security keys (otherwise you'll need to re-enter the key the next time you connect), but I'd remove most of the rest by holding the stylus on the network name and selecting remove settings from the popup. Note that any networks that are in range will still show in the list after doing this.

Box and ikehiker,

Thanks. Unfortunately, however, none of the suggestions worked.

When I do this, I get the screen called 'Configure Network Adapters'. The screen shows a list of adapters. 'Tap an adapter to modify settings: 1. NE2000 Compatible Eathernet Drive 2. Dell Axim X51 WLAN wirelss Adapter. 3....
By tapping on the Dell Axim adapter, I get another screen with two radio buttons, with 'use server-assigned IP address' selected.
There is another tab called 'Name Servers', with the following empty fields: DNS, Alt DNS, WINS...

When I close that screen I get a message : Adapters - The new settings will be applied the next time the adapter is used....

I get the network list by clicking on WLAN utility ---> Site tab.
Though I see many networks including my own, nothing happens when I tap on any of them. If I hold the stylus pressed, the ring of blue circles appears and vanishes. That is all. Nothing pops up.

If you are getting the 'Configure Network Adapters' page when you tap the settings button you probably don't have the Wifi turned on.

Soft reset your Ax to get everything shut down and happy.
Go to the Wlan Utility, tap the Big Turn On button. The green light should start to flash.
Tap the settings button and it should take you to a page that says Configure Wireless Networks.
This is the page that both myself and Ike are talking about.
Tap and hold on the wireless network you want to connect to and select Connect.

If you aren't able to get to this page then there is some other problem.

The site tab you refer to is behaving as it should, taping on them there does nothing.

How are you turning your Wifi on and off?
If you are using the hardware button you may only be turning BT on and off. Note the different colour of the flashing light. Blue for Bluetooth, Green for Wifi.
The hardware button can't tell which you want, it only does whatever it did last time.
If BT is on and you press the Hardware button it will turn BT off.
Next time you press the hardware button it will turn BT on.
If both are on it will turn both off etc....
