Question Help Please, I have a Home Video in VOB format, need to convert it to WMV ? for axim

:rolling:

First, I am a newbie, sorry...

V's first pda should give a hint, :) I hope..

as for computer, a year old, so I know enough to get by...and am learning
more and more...

((( Please make the solution as ***easy*** as possible, if there's one )))

I have these video's from my camera, they happen to be in vob format, there on my computer, and I can view them, not the best either, but, I would like to put them on my axim, I believe they have to be in wmv format for this, ( is that correct ???? )

I've read and read, have to say,

I hope there is something out there that you all know of, that will convert these video's for me very very very easy I hope, it would be nice if it did all the changes to it for me....

I think I need, it to have options of different file formats tho, not just vob to wmv...

Is There Anyone, that can help????????????????????

ppps make it simple please :)

PocketDivxEncoder is probably what you'd want. After you downloaded the program, dbl click on the exe. It'll ask you what device you want to encode the video for. If you pick PDA, the output file is set @ 320x240. Or select VGA, the output will be 640x480. Select the video file you want to encode. You can even select only part of video for the program to encode. Although for some reason this option wasn't available for all video files. Might have to do w/ the length of the video. You can adjust video & audio quality, brightness, contrast, etc. Or use default settings. Output file has avi extension. There is also a batch function, where you can select multiple files for encoding. Download TCPMP for playback.

I encoded two videos using default settings, target device was VGA. One was a VOB file from a DVD rip. I selected a 10 sec clip of the video (720x540). The other was a MP4 file. Episode 81 of Tekzilla (640x360) to be exact. I was happy w/ the results. Playback was smooth. I did not see video being out of sync w/ the audio nor artifacts. When I used Super to encode the video, I see blockiness in the output.

Hope this helps.

I use super, download at SUPER to convert all of my videos.

It can convert vob to almost anything.
I also use TCPMP to view my videos. TCPMP supports avi, mpeg, but not vob, so you will still have to convert. It is much smoother than wmp, and the wmv format in my opinion is inferior to avi and mpeg.

How do I download this PocketDivxEncoder ??? I dont know what a tcpmp is, I dont really want to change the wmp, I would rather be safe then sorry...since I really dont know what I'm doing...

so this pocket divxencoder will let me select these vob files, and the output can be checked to wmv ????

these vob video's have alot with them, say, one video has 2 extra doc's by them if that is what you call them, or it is seperated to make a video, this is very confusing...

it mixed all the files together even tho there are a few different video's..

I maybe can figure that out when I have more time..

is there any other converter thing that is free and safe that will convert any file type and change it to any file type needed....???

like one converter does all sorta thing?

Thank you

Pocket Divx encoder (free):
pocketdivxencoder.net

Super (free):
erightsoft.net

TCPMP player 0.72 RC1 (free):
picard.exceed.hu/tcpmp/test/tcpmp.pocketpc.0.72RC1.exe

Installation of TCPMP is straight forward. With the Axim in the dock, run the exe file you just downloaded. You can associate all video file types (avi, wmv, mp4, divx, etc.) w/ this player. Personally, I haven't used Windows Media Player in a long time.

These "extra doc's", you mean files w/ IFO & BUP extensions? Pocket Divx Encoder will ignore those. When you browse for files to convert, it'll only show the video files the program supports. WMP will not play videos encoded w/ this program. Hence the use of TCPMP.

If you really need to stick w/ WMP compatible videos then Super should be able to do it. Although I haven't had much luck outputting a video that plays back smoothly. Anyone has any suggestions as to what output codec and video bit rate to use?
Thanks.

TCPMP is a media player like WMP, pretty simple to use, in my opinion. It also seems to work a lot better than WMP. Installing it wont mess up your WMP.

another good program to use is windows media encoder 9 series. its free, and is made to encode for things like windows mobile media players, but it doesnt come wit vob support. to get it to convert vobs, you can download the trial version of cyberlink dvd suit, and WME9 will use that program's codecs.
