Herky-jerky video playback Windows Media Player 10
I put quite a few wmv files on my x50v, and all of them play back unevenly, with lags, and accelerations to catch up. It's not terribly bad, but I wondered if there was some sort of conversion setting I could use that would improve this. Also, are there any other movie file types besides wmv that the Media Player 10 will successfully play?
When i first got my x50, i used to use wmp to play movies. I was dissatisfied with its performance, which was similar to yours. I also hated the fact that it only played wmv videos.
Thats when i found TCPMP, a simple to use, free media player that can play many more video and audio formats than wmp. The list of formats this player can play is long. But, i guarantee that unless your video format is screwed up, TCPMP will play your video a lot smoother than WMP. I would also recommend using something other than wmv with TCPMP. I use avi myself, but mpeg also works good.
Heres the download, you wont be dissatisfied. TCPMP

Interesting, I thought 72RC1 was the latest.
A quick Google Search found .81... Here is the link.
*Edit: Just read is QVGA only. So yeah, it's not to going to look pretty on devices like x51v...

The .81 runs great on my x51v, maybe I have a different version...Emeraldgirl08, you have to get the subtitle file (srt), and use a program to convert it to .smi, (I use a program called subresync) put it in the same folder as your movie file. Some srt files are easy to find, some impossible..
It works great, I watch Asian movies all the time, its mostly for my wife since she does not understand the movies, but wanted to watch them too since I tell her how good they are. There may be another method to this, Ive been doing this for a couple of years, I did a bit of research to figure this out.
The upcoming Coreplayer is supposed to support subtitles too, but it uses a different subtitle file type, that Im not familiar with.
Haha, I was commenting to johnhu since he said it was for qvga, I had no idea it was designed for those devices. I've actually never used .72RC1, so I have no frame of reference. I'm glad it looks just as good, I wasn't sure since there were a lot of dead links for the .81 version. At the time I downloaded it, the .81 was "experimental," so I didn't know if the dead links meant anything since everyone always talks about the .72RC1 version.

I think Windows Media Player and Internet Explorer for pocket pc are garbage. TCPMP is the way to go for video and it also can stream music from shoutcast. S2P is the way to go for playing MP3s. Opera Mobile Diamond 2392 with Flash Lite 3.1 is the way to go for a web browser for the x51v. Opera Mini and Skyfire run the fastest and Skyfire is the only full flash support web browser, but Opera Mini and Skyfire look blurry on the x51v unless zoomed in. Opera Mobile Diamond 2392 looks great on the x51v. Sorry to go off topic, but the crappy Windows Media Player reminded me of the crappy Internet Explorer for Pocket PC. I dislike them both so much that I deleted the shortcuts to both in my programs.
I would put a link to the Opera Mobile with Flash Lite, but this site won't let me because I haven't posted enough. If you are interested just type "opera mobile with flash lite" in Google search and it should be the 7th link down. The title will start with *[Sep-26-08]* Diamond Opera 9.5 Build 2392. There you can find links to the Opera Mobile 2392 and Flash Lite 3.1. The Flash Lite 3.1 will only install on WM6.1. It will not install on WM5.
If you want to use the Opera Mobile SD Card install you will probably have to edit the Opera.ini file, which is located in the /Windows/Opera9 folder. I found that whoever made the Opera.ini file linked most of the stuff to Storage Card. If your SD Card is labeled Storage Card in your File Explorer, then you are all set and you don't have to do anything, but if it's labled SD Card, then you will have to transer the Opera.ini file to your desktop and change everywhere that it says Storage Card to SD Card and transfer it back into the /Windows/Opera9 folder and overwrite the Opera.ini file. If you want to change the name of your SD Card to Storage Card, you could do that instead, but when I tried on mine, I got errors saying that it couldn't be changed. I just ended up editing my Opera.ini file.
One more weird thing that I noticed about Opera Mobile is that in order to get your downloads to show up you must click the download tab right after your intial startup of Opera Mobile or the download page will never show up. Just make sure that when you start up Opera Mobile for the first time, let it load the homepage of google.com/m and right after it loads click on the bottom right tab and it will bring up a list of tabs. Click on the Tab labeled Download and it will bring up the Download Page. If it brings up the download page then you are all set, but if you wait until later to do this the download page may never come up and you will never be able to see the progress of your downloads. I never understood why, but if it comes up the first time, it will show up everytime. If you wait until later, it will never work. It may not be a big deal to most people, but I made sure that I clicked it right after the initial startup because I like to see the progress of my downloads and open them right from my web browser.
Well, I use TCPMP and WMP like VLC and WMP on my desktop.
My album songs are still on WMP because of its easiness of organization. I use TCPMP (Now Coreplayer) and VLC for viewing videos and other non-standard formats.
Nothing to say about Opera. Still the best mobile browser there is!

WMP really isn't that bad for playing music, but it's just not a complete Media player, so it's useless to me. I really like the S2P because it's very easy to access everything without using a stylus, but TCPMP is the most complete media player that I have came across for Pocket PC.
I like pocketmusic for playing music, though all the music players I've tried have odd organization systems. PocketTunes has the best organization imo, but the sound quality isn't very good. Coreplayer is great all around, excellent video, and music playback also.
As for browsers Opera Mini is still my fav, bc of sheer speed alone, skyfire for flash, opera 15229 build good all around browser.

I would be all for opera mini if it had better vga support, but it looks blurry to me most of the time unless you zoom in and it's still a bit blurry, but Opera Mobile is so clear no matter what. I can actually read most every word on the screen all the time, zoomed all the way in or all the way out. I do really like the speed of opera mini, but I think Opera Mobile is worth waiting the extra couple seconds because of how clear it looks. It's a shame that youtube, myspace, and other sites keep on requiring higher versions of Adobe Flash or Opera Mobile would be almost perfect with the Flash Lite 3.1.
