Upgraded from WinXP to Vista 32 bit, then later upgraded to Vista 64 bit.
Have always had an issue trying to get my Dell Axim X50v to create a new partnership, and believe this is the case still.
I have two other computers, and when connecting I had the option to create a partnership between two computers, or just one. I never had an issue removing a previous partnership with WinXP.
However, when it comes to Vista, I justget a prompt for the password, connects (guest), and I see the "Set up your device" button. Clicking this pauses a few seconds, then gives an error screen:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Windows Mobile Device Center
(X) There is a problem with your connection. Please disconnect ans reconnect your device and try again.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sadly this does no good, and looked at Device Manager, and things are where they are supposed to be.
It boils down to Partnerships. Even tried the update to the latest & greatest 64 bit ActiveSync software, and the installation backs out; guess there is no update needed for my newer Dell XPS 630i computer.
So, how do I remove the former partnership, and attempt to get Vista to connect?
Start > ActiveSync
Tools > Options...
Use this PC: IBM-F53DAE5BC45 (only one listed, no option to remove/delete)
So how do I get rid of the IBM WinXP Partnership of another computer, so as to attempt to get one with my Vista system? I'm pulling what little gray hair I have left out!
My Vista machine is online nearly 24/7, and I hate having to run the Axim's wireless card to get Pocket Weather updates when I could be getting them through my main PC.
:rolling: Help! :realmad:

X50v has Bluetooth and I thought Dell's XPS series have the ability to buy Bluetooth as an additional accessory.
Why not attempt a Bluetooth sync?
It could be a faulty cradle...

Not a faulty cradle if is synchronizes just fine with two WinXP machines.
Bluetooth, tried it once. Partnership issues, can't seen to get the Axim to give up its partnership with an XP machine.
The synchonrizing works just fine with WinXP machines I have here.
1. Install ActiveSync
2. Plug in Axim USB
3. Get prompted for Guest, Dual, or Sole Partnership
Plug into Vista machine
1. Vista's Mobile Device Center window appears
2. Installs device drivers, Device Manager shows the Dell Axim USB Synch
3. Two options: Set up your device (whch errors out due to partnership issue) or Connect without setting up device
--- The latter works does not work for pocket weather updates, nor can I synchronize Outlook & appointments.
--- The former is blocked by a generic error messages which boils down to the Axim X50v not being able to give up it's former partnership
Somehow I have to get the Axim to give up its Partnership before I can scynchronize with a Vista machine.
Plugging the device into any WinXP machine (with ActiveSynch installed) I get prompted to start a new partnership, which the Axim will freely give up to create anew. Not so with Vsita, as Vista wants the partnership to be removed before creating a new one!
So the idea is how to get the Axim to give up it's partnership so it can communicate properly with the Vista machine.

Sounds very odd, I'm guessing you have rebooted and soft reset and held your mouth the right way?
Is it a big problem for you to do a Hard Reset?
Do you have a lot that needs backing up etc....
I'm guessing a Hard reset and new Device Name should get you going, but don't quote me on that.
I've always had problems connecting anything with WM5 and above with Vista via USB, but Bluetooth connects everytime. It seems like it should be the other way around, but Bluetooth has been the only reliable method of syncing for me.
This time around bluetooth saw the Axim, the Axim saw the Vista machine, yet neither could synchronize.
Reconnected my Axim back to my laptop, and it was loaded with a new partnership. Why can't this be done with Vista's Mobility Center? Still makes me wonder why Microsoft goes out of their way to make things harder, while telling us it's easier.
May have to rebuild the Axim. That means dragging all them files back out, all the serial numbers, and wasting 8 hours getting it all set back up and functional.
The most I do with my Axim anymore is check Pocket Weather (since it's very accurate for Idaho), use it to monitor appointments, and occasionally check incoming e-mail when I'm otherwise occupied with other programs or games.
Can't wait for a CyberDeck to come out, that straps to the arm and carried around. The Sony Vaio UX180P Micro PC looked nice, just never could afford one, and don't see any around in stores any more. Wished I owned one.
With the new Intel Atom, I wonder if there will be something in the works - maybe with a flip top monitor with protected shell as opposed to a sliding one? :approve:

Delete all partnerships(if you have any) between the Axim and the PC in both Bluetooth Managers on both the Axim and the PC. Put your Axim in discovery mode(make sure both the "Turn on Bluetooth" box is checked and the "Make this device visible to other devices" boxes are checked in the Bluetooth Settings on the Axim) and find the Axim with your PC through the Bluetooth Manager on your PC. Put in a password on your PC or have it automatically make 1 and put in the same number when you get the pop up on your axim asking you to allow the PC to connect. After you have the Axim paired with your PC, you can go into the Bluetooth Settings and uncheck the "Make this device visible to other devices" box. Then open the program Activesync on your axim, then click menu, then click connect via bluetooth. It should connect no problem. If there's any kind of error and it asks if you want to try pairing again click NO and try again connecting via bluetooth through activesync from the menu in activesync. You shouldn't even get the error, but if you do, just click no and try again. The error will happen once in awhile, but it usually always works by the second time and it's far more reliable than USB as far as connecting to Windows Mobile Device Center. The error will only set you back a few seconds if it does happen, while the USB connecting can take a PC reboot on Vista and/or plugging and unplugging the USB cable over and over again.
