When you set up a phone as a modem connection through Bluetooth, I think you have to pair from the phone. I don't think it will work if you pair the devices through your Axim. If you paired the devices through the Axim, then delete the partnership from both your phone and the Axim. Then go into the Bluetooth settings on your Axim and make sure the "Turn on Bluetooth" box is checked and make sure the "Make this device visible to other devices" box is checked. Then go to the Bluetooth Settings on your phone and find the axim and pair it from the phone. You will have to make up a password on the phone and then when you get the notification on your axim, put in the matching code and then they are paired. After they are paired, you can uncheck the "Make this device visible to other devices" box on the Axim. Then go into Connections on the Axim, then go to Add a new Modem Connection. Then select Bluetooth in the "Select a Modem" box. Then click next and you should see your phone in the menu. Tap on your phone and tap next if it doesn't automatically take you to the next step. It will then ask for a number. Type in the number your phone uses to access the Internet. I have Sprint, so in my case I had to enter #777 in the box. Make sure you include the number symbol along with the numbers if your phone includes a number symbol when dialing to the Internet. You just match it exactly to the number your phone displays when connnecting to the Internet. After you enter the number, tap next and enter in a name in the "User name" box. In my case I put my user name as Sprint. Don't put anything in the Password or Domain boxes. Leave them empty. Then tap finish and you are done. You don't have to set up a Modem Connnection on your Phone. Now with Bluetooth On you can go into Internet Explorer or whatever Web Browser you are using on your Axim and you should get a pop up box with your modem connection. Just tap ok and it should dial out like your phone does when connecting to the Internet and it should establish a connection to your phone and connect to the Internet.
Make sure you have an unlimited data plan because cell phone companies charge by the KB and they rack up extremely fast. I checked my email like 3-4 times from yahoo mobile without a data plan and it costs like $12. I would have guessed it would only be $1-$2, but the KBs racked up really quick.
By the way, if you use WiFi and Phone as a Modem, I found a nice application to disable your Phone as a Modem when you are using WiFi. I was having a problem with Windows Live over WiFi. For some reason Windows Live would always have my Phone as a modem pop up box come up even over WiFi and it wouldn't successfully connect through WiFi, but only Phone as a Modem. I would have to delete my Modem Connection in order for Windows Live to work over WiFi. Anyway, I found a program that allows you to disable the Phone as a Modem Connection, so you can use WiFi with no problem on all programs. I have the link to the program below. Thanks to MrMage from HTCGeeks because he's actually the one who found it. You will find the program near the bottom of the first post. It's called nodata.cab. I think you have to register with the site, but it's well worth it if you ever need a way to disable your modem connection. Also, if you are using WM5 or below you will have to install Net Compact Framework 3.5 for Pocket PC if you don't already have it installed. If you are using WM6 or above the ROM should already have it installed.
