X51v not connecting with Wi-fi using WPA-PSK

I'm not able to get a good connection between my X51v and our office wifi network. It's been suggested that it could be an encryption issue. Someone on another site said she has trouble with WPA but not with WEP. I get a great connection at home with WEP; our office uses WPA.

So, a few questions. Is there something I can do with my Axim as it is (WM 5, A12) to provide a good connection? If not, would it help to upgrade to WM 6? Is there such a thing as an external wifi modem I could attach that might work better?

I've never been able to get my Axim to connect WPA to my router, so I have it set up WEP. I've tried it on several occasions in the last 2 years without success.

I don't really discuss the WPA vs WEP much on the site because I've never seen consensus on a solution that works and have never had the time to do troubleshooting myself.

I have always used my X51V running WM5 with WPA/PSK-TKIP and 802.11b. Sucessfully, I might add. My home access point actually runs in b/g mixed mode.

Could be that there is a mismatch between the network and your device. A couple of possibilities include:
  1. TKIP vs AES
  2. 802.11b vs 802.11g

You can fake out the radio on the X51V to connect to 802.11g, even though the device is actually only 802.11b via tweaks.

Thanks for the tip. The only changes that seemed relevant were turning off the power save and changing the setting on my particular network to Work. Determining whether such things will help is a matter of time. The connection hasn't been impossible in the past, just sporadic.

No problem with WPA-PSK here. Then again, I'm using Lenny's L11 (WM6.1)...

I remember WPA was horrible with WM5 for some reason. Vagus posted a patch that has had some success for me. Try it out, here.

IMHO, you always want to use "Work" and never want to use "Internet"
