Arrow My Ax is taking a trip to Hong Kong.

My x51v felt like doing some shopping, grabbing some decent Dim Sum and maybe grab an extra 64 MB or RAM while he was there, so I packed him off today.

The main reason was to finally be able run Powerpoint presentations through Softmaker Office (and perhaps finally realize the dream that my Axim could replace the need to carry a laptop on business trips!).
It's also pretty clear that with 6.5 about to appear and softwear seeming to get increasingly more complex, that 64MB is soon just not going cut the mustard.

The whole process, including return shipping (I live in Japan) comes to $95 and my baby should be back in less than a week.
I have heard nothing but good reports on the service that Palm-center offers and Alex there is incredibly quick and helpful in responding to emails.

I will update this post when I get my Axback, and let you all know how it went, and what performance differences I note.

For a minute I was thinking "who's he kidding - to China and back in ONE WEEK"? Then I noticed you are in Osaka! Heh ...

Howz Japan doing these days? I used to live in Yokosuka back in '74-76.

My Axim has always wanted to visit Hong Kong. I had the same though as CB. I thought gurachn has some kind of extremely fast shipping or something.

Hey guys, its the 21st century!
There isnt anywhere in the world that is more than a few days away. One of the guys over at HTC geeks (who I am pretty sure is based in the States) got his Ax back in 6 days. It seems like the operation itself is a one day turnaround.
Anyway, I will let you know how it goes.

My Ax is done!
Less than 48 hours after I kissed it goodbye, it is upgraded and starting on its way back home! And with more than 86 free MB of ram!

None too soon either!

Palm-center.com
The site is all in Chinese unfortunately.
Best bet is to drop an email to Alex (pda@palm-center.com).
He seems like a nice guy, works incredibly fast, and is really good about keeping in communication.

I havent got it back yet, so I cant give any definitive observations on how much of an improvement it is, but he did drop me a line to tell me that he found one of the buttons to be a bit unresponsive (something I had noticed but it hadnt bothered me much as I dont use them much anyway) so he fixed that up at no extra charge.
Can't complain about that!

Cool

$100 US dollars sounds a lot better than $165.

I forget the name of the place that upgrades RAM here in the states but we got a strange economy here!

ppc techs which I believe is 170 with shipping it would run 180ish depending on how you ship it.
