Axim X50 phone??

So I am at work bored to tears and I have my laptop on and it is tethered to my Treo 700 and I have my Axim beside it with and got to thinking, why doesn't Dell turn the Axim into a phone??? I think it would give the iPhone a run for its money. I love my Axim with its larger screen than my Treo. It is touch screen and my big ol fingers have no problem as opposed to my Treo's small screen. I have programs that I can run on both my Axim and Treo but due to the screen size I just leave them on the Axim. Also, the thinness of the Axim is nice. It is not as bulky as my Treo. Since the PDA has pretty much been replaced by the Smartphone, I think Dell is missing out. I don't know squat about the internals of my Axim or the Treo but if there was a way that I could put the internals of my Treo into the Axim case and have the Axim screen show both the Treo and the Axim, I would do that. Next I would redesign the antenna to be internal like that of the iPhone and boom problem solved. I have Verizon and I don't see an iPhone in their future. Maybe Dell will step up and take that wonderful platform of the Axim and create a handset/smartphone. I know there are programs out there where you can dial from your contacts on the Axim and use a bluetooth earpiece to take the call but that sort of defeats the purpose of the phone now doesn't it. Oh well, it's late and I have 6 more hours to go. Just wishfull thinking on my Axim becoming a phone.

I think if my axim just had phone functionality I wouldn't have a need for a seperate phone. I've been reading Dell is possibly releasing a phone in China, that is non-wm based..I think the problem with the axim as a phone is the battery life, and it would need to go into standby mode also like a phone to conserve the battery power.

Dell seems to have taken themselves out of the pda/phone market, but this could all change.

They do make phones that run Windows Mobile, not the smartphone edition, but the same windows mobile that the axims have. These phones are basically a pda like the axim with phone functionality. The HTC Fuze and Touch Pro are a few examples.

Been travelling for a few months, find my Ax used less 'n less. Awful!

Why can't an app be made for the Axim's turning the little guys into a phone?

It would require a cell band radio install-there used to be some in the
Japanese market in the form of CF cards but have not seen many around.
HTC for example has flooded the market with WM cell/pdas so I don't
believe the market will support the development or improvement
of that technology.
