Does anyone know if the Kingston Compact Flash ElitePro 8 GB will work in an Axim X50 running WM2003SE on the A05 ROM? I didn't see any yes/no answer on the flash memory compatibility list.
I'm using 3 different Trancend 4GB non-SDHC cards in my various Axims.
One of the problems with SD cards is that they transfer data to and from the card in a quasi serial fashion using 4 bits at a time. This creates timing issues when you have cards whose specs are marginal.
Compact Flash cards on the other hand, transfer data in a synchronized parallel mode and unless you have a counterfeit CF card that has crappy specs, almost any CF card should work without problem. I use an A-data 16GB card in one of my Axims.
Stuff you should know -
- Never defrag a flash device - not only do they not need it, you can wear them out prematurely.
- Like a harddrive, if you dispose of a flash device, write garbage data to it a couple of times to fill it up before disposal or you old data can be recovered.
- They DO get corrupted sometimes so like a harddrive, make a backup of your flash memory data every so often.
I hope this helps.

and never scandisk the cards! I did that a couple of times with no problem but had a horrible result on the last scan. All my data was moved to a folder called "Found." The files also had weird names with a lot of numbers.
Needless to say I was horrified!!!
Never again :o
