Have you checked the lock switch on the left side? Although that should lock all the buttons. But, check it anyway.

You may have to do a hard reset. Just backup all your files first.

IF you can sync to your computer thru ActiveSync, use the backup under the Tools menu. Be sure to do a Full Backup. Then, you can remove any SD and CF cards installed and perform the hard reset.

Steps for a hard reset:
1 Press the Power button to turn the Axim unit On.
2 Press and hold the Power button down while using the Axim stylus to press the Reset button at the same time.
3 Release the Power button and the Reset button. The "To clear all data in the memory" screen appears.
4 Press the Contacts button on the Axim to delete all of the data in the memory of the Axim handheld.
5 Press the Mailbutton on the Axim to cancel the operation without losing data

Hope this helps fix your problem. :)

If you have not done a hard reset already, try using Diagnostic mode first.

1. Press and hold Power+Record button (On the side)

2. While holding the two buttons, tap the reset hole

3. When a screen pops up, release the Power+Record button

Then follow the instructions given.

There are some prompts where you are required to press Yes/No. If they do not work, then you have a broken digitizer. A hard reset would not fix your problems.

I tried the above steps and could not tap the red point on alignment check screen, and kinda stuck now kos the screen deos not change since I cannot tap it.Does this mean that the unit is not going to work anymore:(...
No hope with hard reset even if the digitizer is beoken as suggested by above????

and now I am kind of stuck since the screen is frozen in the diagnostic mode "touch panel test" and I cannot stop the process or even proceed to next step.soft reset also does not work anymore!!

Edit note: I managed to soft start Axim from diagnostic mode and also was able to activesync it.New thing started:
Start menu keeps popping and disappearing (while the system is on the cradle)even if I donot touch the screen and if I do tap the screen then also it opens and closes multiple times and then stops by itself...any thoughts...shuld I just give up trying to revive the system

Run a business card under the inner edges of the Axim. That will get the dust/debris out of the edges of the screen.

I think the unnecessary pressure of those debris is causing the intermittent Start Menu problem and problem with the screen.

Glad to hear it's working. :approve: If it were me I think I'd do a hard reset to clear everything up. At least do a soft reset.

Just make sure to do a backup before you hard reset. You should be doing backup regularly anyway. Nothing worse than losing everything because the battery went dead. :(

The backup is under the tool pull-down. See the picture below.

i dont see any option for backup under TOOLS,I searched in activesync help and it says

"Backing up and restoring information is available only for Windows Mobile software for Smartphone 2003 and earlier and Windows Mobile software for Pocket PC 2003 and earlier."

even there is no option for manual backup.
Any advice?
and now the problem started again and screen is frozen and no response to tapping and even soft reset.

I was about to post that WM5/WM6 did provide a backup option in Activesync.

Your best option would be to manually copy+paste personal data. Programs generally cannot be backed up because they contain entries in the registry.

""tap your screen to begin reset""?

It should say "Press the calendar button to hard reset. Press the mail button to cancel." Or something to that effect. Hard reset does not require screen presses...
