Still nothing

Still the same. It goes through the install but will not turn back on after the hard reset. Had to restore previous version. Has anybody ever successfully flashed the rom from the sd card from wm2003se A05 to wm5 A01 without the use of a sync cable before?

I don't know if this helps or not, but the ram and crc checksum that works is:0x686A7869.

Open up the .crc file on the 2nd experimental file with notepad.

And change it to 686A7869 (Without the 0x) and save it.

Then try again.

I'll give it a shot. Doesn't the nb0 have correspond with the crc?

Yes, I used a CRC calculator to determine the correct CRC from the NB0. But the Axim's CRC check takes precedence over the CRC calc.

Your thoughts on any of this?

Here is what I notice. The files you create are recognized as long as they start with DiMa. They all start out by reading the sd card, then they go into writing flash and when it is done it ask me to do a hard rest, the unit won't come back on at this point. I think that is the point in which the system actually flashes the rom, I'm guessing. The file did not write flash when I changed the crc value to something different then what you calculated. The img file that is used to flash the rom that comes with the upgrade via the cable sync. Now how does the unit know how to extract it or is it the flash file that is already written. The only time it actually flashes is when I use this file: DiMa_K_A05_X50_WM2k3_ENG.nb0. Is there a way to figure out how to convert the file AximX50_B_WM5_A01EN to write flash and actually flash. What happens from the time the files transfers when doing the update via software and sync cable, does the update software convert it? Do you know of anyone that has a X50 running wm5 that would be willing to use this grab it file from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=238945 to get me the dump.bin file?

your thoughts on any of this?

Thanks,
Greg

I did it!!!!!!

John & Steven,

Hey Guys I did it. I finally got it to do it. This is what I did:

1st: I took the bootloader WM50_B_A02_X50_WM5_ENG.nb0 and changed it to DiMa_B_A02_X50_WM5_ENG.nb0 and then flashed. Success!!

2nd: I flashed with file WM50_K_A02_X50_WM5_EN.nb0 and bam Success again, God is Great!!

I am now a happy camper, No problems with anything, everything work perfect!!!

Thanks again!!!

Not bad, what was missing was the bootloader.

I do not have the WM5 A01 bootloader. So I guess the A02 bootloader works as a substitute.

Glad to be of service.

Issue

I read the postings in the thread and started the upgrade, but.. and a big but, I flashed the A02 bootloader and followed the instructions to reset.

now there is only darkness...

it won't boot at all, not even into the flasher. Did I brick it beyond repair? It was free and just going to be thrown away, but I kinda liked it.

Check the lock switch on the side first.

Try again to get back to the bootloader mode if you can. That is probably your only hope.

If that does not work and it will be disposed of, I would be willing pay for shipping for the parts (US only please).

Odd

Thanks for the reply. Switch appeared to be unlocked, but...

Out of desperation, I tried one more time (The last time)... after dozens of attempts... and it turned on!!! I couldn't tell you what I did or didn't do. But, woohoo!!! my free PDA is working, and soon will be WM6+!

FYI, I will let you know, as long as I remember, if it ever goes under.
