Axim X50 os upgrading problem

I have a Axim X50 that is presently loaded with Windows mobile 2003 Second Edition version 4.21.1088 (build 14260.2.0.5) Rom version A05 (07270500). I would like to upgrade my OS to WM6. When the SD loader starts it says A01. Can some one tell me how accomplish this and where to find the necessary image files to do this? Also, my unit has a bad sync connector, is it still possible to upgrade it?

Thanks,

WM6 for the x50 (Mid or Low) is underdeveloped as of now. Multitudes of features are currently missing. For instance, CF and SDHC (reported) capabilities are missing. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are also patchy and problematic. In general, the ROM is unstable.

For that reason alone, I strongly recommend you stay with WM2003SE. It is a far more stable ROM than WM5 or WM6 for x50.

If you still want to proceed, reply to this post and I will guide you through the steps.

I agree with John if you are using mid or low.

and he can sort you out otherwise.

I'm still game for upgrading

I'm still game for upgrading! I would even settle for WM5.

Thanks

Thanks Box. :)

It is your choice to go to WM5. Don't say I didn't warn you.
~~~~~~~
Before we get started, I need to ask if you have Axim x50 Mid or Low.
If you don't know you can find out by: Start menu-->Settings-->"System" tab-->System Information
Then take a look at "Processor Speed". If it is 416mHz, it is Low. If it is 520mHz, it is Mid.
After that, please back up all personal information that may have on the device. If you want an automatic backup, try SPB Backup or Sprite Backup (Both are shareware but they have trials). Or you can manually backup by copy and pasting your documents, pictures, etc.
Do not use the default backup in Start menu-->Programs! Also, programs nor settings can be backed up. They can be reinstalled/ re-set.
Please reply if you are finished or have any sort of questions.
Damn, did not realize I did not have the x50 WM2003SE-->WM5 Upgrade CD files.
I found a Chinese website (I read Chinese) with the files. Although the file size seems a bit large for the CD itself. The download time is horribly slow. So I'll be tomorrow until I get the files.
Thank you for your patience.
If you look at the contents of the iso file (or cd when you have it in the cd drive), it should have the files needed to upgrade all 3 models in the X50 family to WM5 A01.
The Chinese website's server keeps cutting off the file. Steven, do you have the .iso or files?
The CD is discontinued a long time ago. Apparently, many x50 users did not like WM5 at all. :( (Still warned you...)
Ebay did not produce any results.
Actually John, I DO happen to have the upgrade cd in a nice iso format, ready for you to burn to a cd (or mount it with the right software).
Anything appreciated.
Is there a place I could download your CD from? I have rewired my Axim X50 to sync through a mini-b usb cable. It is awesome and Love messing with these PDA's, I am usually messing with desktop pc, but PDA's are so much fun.
Anything Appreciated!
Thanks!
The CD is discontinued. Steven seems to have a nice collection of rare ROMs. :)
I'm waiting for him to get on IM again and upload it.
Is this upgrade possible without a sync cable connection; I just want to do an sd card load?
