It's my understanding that Garmin xt only works with WM5 or newer. There are a number of threads discussing this issue in the GPS forums. :(

There's always the chance of bricking your AX if you upgrade to WM5. There are a number of threads discussing this too. :(

IF it were me, I'd go with a different Navigation software. I personally use iGuidance and it works great for me. But, I'm looking for a large database of POIs either. :)

This is just my opinion. Many ppl have upgraded to WM5 with no problems. :exc:

I run Garmin Que v2.9 on my WM2003 X50v and have the free Caribbean maps installed. It works great and I used it on my last cruise in the Caribbean.

Look at LennySh's WM6.1 A09 (Test 2) ROM, just make sure you install the .NET CF after installing the ROM... I upgraded a while back and will NEVER go back to WM5, so much faster and more reliable than WM5. Look for more info here: forum.htcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=363 on HTCGeeks.

To keep it simple. Yes, it is suggested you install WM5 A02 first. I had a case where WM5 A02 was skipped, but I recommend playing it safe.

I didn't... I went directly from WM5 A01 to WM6.1 A09 with one and from WM2003SE to WM6.1 A09 with a different units, but I have heard that some people can (and have) brick their Axim that way and I may have just gotten lucky so I would recommend installing the A02 ROM from the original Dell install files first like johnhu said, this allows the bootloader to be updated as well. Also, when you load the WM6.1 ROM, use a SD card 2GB or smaller, NOT a SDHC card, the bootloader will sometimes recognize the SDHC card but ROM installs seem to get corrupted even if it recognizes the SDHC card and the files on it.

That's why I never upgraded to WM5. Too many people have had issues like this. :(

after reading the forum i think is because of the battery cover. today i puted in 2200mah battery and battery cover so maybe was because of that switch for battery cover

I wouldn't think a battery cover problem would give you the Dell screen after a soft reset.

It shouldn't work at all or intermittently.
