I'm in the UK, and have a USB modem with T-Mobile, which incorporates a removable simcard, allowing me to browse the internet on my laptop using the 3G (HSDPA) network.
Is there a modem or connecting device I can use which will allow me to connect to 3G using my Dell Axim x51v?
Hm, I should get one stateside one of these days...

There are some 3G CompactFlash card adaptors, but haven't used or even seen them in the UK. Possibly available from Far East or the US via eBay.
I myself have an AudioVox RT8000, which only does GPRS, but works fine with any SIM. For now, the easiest way to get 3G is to tether it to a 3G compatible phone via bluetooth. I use my current Samsung F700 and my old SE v600i, which also work fine on the Vodafone network.
Depends on the Bluetooth stack you have installed (either the default MS one, or the Widcomm one). From memory, it goes along the lines of: pair your SE phone to the Axim, create a dialup account with the phone number *99# with the username "user", password "wap". Connect using that dialup account and it should work. If not, you may need to add the following into the modem initialisation string:
+CGDCONT =1,"IP","general.t-mobile.uk"
note the spacing and include the quote marks.
After that, it should work fine. Of course, if 3G is enabled and active on your phone, then you'll get faster browsing speeds on the axim.
