updated my x51v to Football's WM6, now...

a few issues. I actually have a few of the x51v model, so I updated one to WM6 as a test. I then did a full restore from my real x51v.

First problem, when I boot, I get a message the SplashV.exe is either not trusted or is missing a component. Since I think this has been replaced by WM6, how to I keep this from trying to run?

Second problem, I keep getting challenged by every non-Microsoft app that the publisher is unknown. I remember there was once a program to turn that **** thing off but I can't recall what it was. Any help on this GREATLY appreciated.

Bad idea.
When you flash a WM6 ROM, never restore programs and settings from another version of Windows Mobile, especially WM5.

My suggestion is to hard reset your Axim and reinstall the programs you had originally. This should prevent those errors from popping up.

Ok, found the Unknown Publisher one:

There's a registry hack for this. With a registry editor, go to HKLM\Security\Policies\Policies\0000101a and change the value to "1". This will disable warnings. If you don't want to make the edit yourself, I believe Tweaks2k2 has this feature as well.

I might end up doing that, but the only problem I have (at least thus far) is the splash screen. And it would be a royal pain to hunt down all the crap I've installed and want to continue using. I doubt I could track down the serial numbers and stuff. Then again, I doubt I'm going to need IGuidance anymore - I haven't use it since I got a GPS.

The only reason I finally upgraded was because the daylight savings being off was driving me nuts. It does seem much faster though. I had a few activesync issues but finally got that straightened out. I'm leaving two of the Axims with WM5 and will keep playing with the WM6 one for a bit. It's nice having a few spares.

Here's a funny story. I lost my original x51v a year ago. I knew it was in the house, because I went to take it with me and couldn't find it. After a few days I gave up and took a spare from work. On this past Friday I was talking to the IRS (not a funny story) and needed to write something down, so I grabbed the stylus (concealed pen type) and took off the cap to write, dropping the cap into the chair mechanism. One of those big fluffy living room monsters. Later I was sticking my hands into the mechanism, looking for the little cap, and found the missing x51v. It had a whole stylus of course, but I still haven't found the missing cap!

Ok, I tried the A06EN. Very nice, the touch-scrolling is nicely done. But I can't just restore my programs like I did with 6.1, plus there is a bit of a learning curve. So I went back to 6.1. I'll dig up the programs I need and try again. I think I have most or all of them so it probably is just better to reinstall. Maybe early next week.
