VGA vs. QVGA

Can someone give me a no-nonsense assessment of the advantages of VGA over QVGA as applied to specific applications. Hopefully this comparison will help me decide whether I should return my X30 and wait for the X50.

4 times the detail in relatively the same amount of space. (3.5inch, 3.7, 4 inch whatever the end result is *no, the rumor doesn't coutn yet)
so 2 conditions
1. quality remains the same, you can now view 4x of information on the screen.
2. quality improve tremendously with same amount of information on screen (because now you have 4 pixel to display something whereas before you only get one pixel to display it)

I've a post with many images, I also talked about potential of text detail of a same powerpoint slide being much more legible, but I am in no mood to search for it, someone will prolly post you the link.

regarding "specific application" it would help to know what you have in mind.

size
You can view msot of a web pages with minimal scrolling.
you can view pictures witt minimal scrolling
you can view larger portion of a page of text with minimal scrolling.
you can view excel sheets wiht minmal scrolling.

quality
powerpoint slides etc can be view now with clarity. Small texts will be clearly defined. Videos will be clearer, more detailed. You may actually see eyeball from eye lids instead of 5 pixels of varying degree of gray.

Why would you want to fit more text onto the screen. You wont be able to read it. Am I missing something?

you can read text clearly even when it is smaller. Now we can't because we are confined by the number of pixels available to render it.

(assuming of course that we are of relative healthy eye sight. for others, they would be strained definitely)

you can make the text larger if you want, so you can sill have more on the screen than a QVGA

i think the sweet-spot is 480x320, why dont we have any of those devices? when i looked at the a730 review and compared the pics of qvga with my x30, the x30 looked OK and the pic on the site looked horrible. if you keep your face 6 inches away, there is not noticeable pixelation at 320x240. with 480x320 it would be even better. but 640x480 seems like overkill to me. not that i dont want it, just that i dont want to pay for it.

there are 480x320 screens for some palm devices. but the decision mainly lies with microsoft, as they make the windows mobile OS. also, thousands of software already use 320x240 and many will be moving to vga. so there won't be any 480x320 screens for ppc in the near future.

It's not always a simple question of pixels ... While you and I may have eyes good enough to do this, there are plenty of people who cannot read tiny letters even if they are printed on paper or have a "high" resolution. This is also the reason why you will find that many books are published simultaneously in regular and "large print" editions.

I always wonder how computers will affect genetics down the line... maybe one day in like 2,000 years our posterity will be able to read text in 1280x1024 on 3.7 inch screen

i know, but why not use 480x320 instead of 640x480? palm manages screens from 160 x 160 to 480x 320,youd think it would be possible for MS to do the same.

maybe its just a matter of being better than palm.
