Ok so the person at Dell who told me it would out on Oct 1st obvious didn't know what they were talking about, so lets see what you all think will be next release date....just a fun little poll here.
It's a tough call. I went with early November. Just on a feeling. They want to hit the Christmas market and not to come out to long after Palm1s new model.
PalmOne probably won't be coming out with a new model. Their company headquarters and shipping center located in Florida were levelled by the four hurricanes. I know because my school ordered 40 Zire 31s and 4 Zire 72s. The 72s came, and 24 of the 31s came. The librarian who is also the head tech person called Palm and they had to outsource their customer service calls to a firm in Utah because their buildings were gone.

Oh, and I'm saying announcement will be on the 12th, preorders taken on the 15/16th, and shipping starting on the 21st. I'm skipping the X50 personally however - my X5 is fine, I'm holding out for the Flipstart. No need to have a PDA and a mini-laptop that are top-of-the line; I won't need to bring my laptop to school anymore if I get the Flipstart, and if I buy the X50 I won't have enough $$ to buy the flipstart and every accesory I need, such as a USB 2.0 DVD +/- R/RW/RAM/DL drive.

I wish it would true that Dell will start to ship the units before the END of Oct....sure would be nice to start Nov off with a new Axim in hand....guess time will tell....have to wait it out.

Um, well, I'm not sure what kind of operations PalmOne has in florida, but their headquarters are certainly not there. Their headquarters are near silicon valley (milpitas to be exact), I drive by it regularly, where they have ~700 employees.
I called Dell sales last Thursday to see what info I could get on the X50 Reliese date. The sales Rep whom I talked with told me that they didn't even know that Dell had an x50 even coming out except what they had heard from people calling in. SHe told me that Dell itself had not reliese any informations to the sales reps concerning the X50.
Now I could understand if this was June of 2004 and Dell wanted to keep it secret for awhile longer. But if this is so close to the reliese date then I would think that their one sales reps would have some info on it at least for the about reliese date when it should be coming out.
Of course on the other hand. I called a month ago and asked about the X30 to see if it has a CF slot in it and the Dell Rep told me that it did! He said that he know because he had sold 100th of them.
Thank God for this Aximsite site where we can learn the Truth. It a shame that Chris don't take on a job selling these Axims. I would much rather buy them from someone whom knows what he is talking about then someone whom just want and to say anything to make a sale.

PalmOne will be releasing a new model within the next month. It is the Tungsten T5, but looks more like a successor to the Tungsten E model. The net is full of leaked info on this unit. Besides, I doubt the levelling of a few buildings would cause the product lauch to be cancelled or seriously delayed.
