Graphics Accelerator for X50?

Hey people,

Does anyone know if the X50v has a graphics engine for games, im not sure what the details are, the dell website is not that helpful.

What difference will the VGA screen have on playing movies and viewing pics...ive heard the brightness may be a serious problem...which means the screen could be darker in the daylight.

Also, i cant believe theres no usb port!!

Thanks inadvance for your help

The X50V uses the Intel 2700G graphics chip, 16MB VRAM.

The brightness is 80 nits instead of 100 but it remains to be seen if this is a serious issue or not.

You mean USB device support. No Pocket PCs to date have a USB port built into it but there are dongles. Unfortunately the X50V does not have support for USB.

this is NOT from the intel 2700g but from an upcoming ppc gpu from nvidia (GoForce 3D 4500) which has similar performance. lets wait and see :)

Intel 2700G is based on PowerVR MBX

The Intel2700G is based on the PowerVR MBX core and is also used in the carbonado reference / development platform. A screenshot of StuntCar Extreme running on Carbonado can be seen here :

Some more info can be found here :

I've been looking around for more info.

Code:
Product Technology Gate Embedded Power
                (mm) count RAM (mW/MHz)

MBX HR-S 0.18/1.5v 660k 15.5k 2.3 max. 80MHz
(no VGP)

MBX HR-S 0.18/1.5v 870k 22k 3.0 max. 80MHz
(with VGP)

MBX HR-S 0.13/1.0v 660k 15.5k 1.1 max. 120MHz
(no VGP)

MBX HR-S 0.13/1.0v 870k 22k 1.5 max. 120MHz
(VGP)

MBX R-S 0.18/1.5v 365k 7.5k 1.5 max. 80MHz

MBX R-S 0.13/1.0v 365k 7.5k 0.7 max. 120MHz
It looks like the 2700g on the x50v is the MBX HR-S ( with or widout VGP i don't know yet ). Also, the doc showed the 2700g running on 75mhz while it quote's as being 0.13. Now unless i'm wrong, this seems to be a little hint, that the 2700g has a lot of potential overclock speed. This may also explain why the dell only has 1100 mA battery. The 2700g seems to run slower then it's able at 0.13 ( aka, saving a lot of power ).

Sorry, must have overlooked this thread and I started a new one. But I found this on pdabuyersguide.com. I'm hoping the reviews being released today will elaborate on this and state whether it's actually true or not.

"Both the iPAQ's gorgeous display and video benchmarks beat out the Dell Axim X50v VGA Pocket PC with Intel's 2700G graphics processor. The iPAQ has an ATI Imageon 3220 graphics chip, and these players have ATI optimizations which may help the iPAQ get the best numbers, along with HP's excellent video driver."

How will this affect battery life? I would think that it would be power hungry to run apps like that.
