I just read this on pdabuyersguide.com about the hx4700/05.
"Both the iPAQ's gorgeous display and video benchmarks beat out the Dell Axim X50v VGA Pocket PC with Intel's 2700G graphics processor. The iPAQ has an ATI Imageon 3220 graphics chip, and these players have ATI optimizations which may help the iPAQ get the best numbers, along with HP's excellent video driver."
I kept thinking the X50 would outperform the HP from what I've read about the two GPU's. Guess we'll have to wait for the reviews and hopefully they'll say more.
i think you may have to wait a little more than that. you have to wait for players to support 2700G acceleration. probably WMP10 will already do that in some level (i guess only for wmv).
That one was released weeks ago, meaning that they likely did not do a TRUE comparison between the X50v and the hx4705. Sounds like they just made assumptions based on the graphics accelerator that the X50v is using.

You might remember my discussion i had yesterday with someone who claimed betaplayer a good benchmarking tool. I warned to draw conclusions from betaplayer benchmarks, since some devices may have hardware acceleration enabled in some benchmark runs and some people may draw invalid conclusions.

Ah, ok, thanks. Because the video performance was what was really holding me back from getting the hx4700. Also because I was hoping for 128MB RAM on the X50v, but now I'm finding out that it only has the same 64MB of RAM as the hx4700. But apparently there is a good reason for only having 64MB rather than 128MB of RAM according to Jason Dunn at PocketPCThoughts. It also looks like WMP10 comes with the X50 from what I've seen on on their site as well. Both mentioned on the same page at link below.

Cool, I hope they are assumptions and upcoming reviews will clarify. I remembered reading this a couple of days ago and I thought maybe they just changed the wording recently after I read it due to the release of the X50 today, because I did not remember seeing the X50 comment. I guess I probably read it and did not catch it thinking he was still refering to the X30 in comparisons.

most of the time it's a good benchmark tool for video playback capability :)
i agree it's always good to know what is measured exactly before making conclusions. example current version of betaplayer will have poor results with x50v for sure.
btw you can turn off video acceleration in betaplayer, but who would public a low benchmark result like that with his hx4700 :)

it will be hard for a x50v reviewer :)
betaplayer won't run good on the x50v, but shines on the hx4700. wmp is slow on hx4700 (wmp9), but will be probably fast on x50v (wmp10)
Reviewers will only have viewing to go by. No programs or benchmarks can true measure the difference b/t the 4700 and x50 yet.

Picard any idea when you might be updating for 2700G support? Need any beta testers :)?

Well, that's good for the crapy Windows Media Encoder. At least now, we can watch better full-lenght movies with Windows Media Player 10! :approve:
