The Asus has been out much longer than the X50 so if anything the Asus has the competition, not the X50v yet.

It's a good PDA, however not without its faults. Here's a good site for info on all competing VGA PocketPCs.

Anyone know if it is still Asus policy to send your PDA if you need a ROM update?

Not that I've heard. Did you hear that somewhere?

I do recall Toshiba did do a recall on one of their PPCs for some reason and I think the ROM update was one of the affected components. But I haven't heard that about Asus.

Yes it is currently Asus policy to have the PDA sent back to them for ROM updates. Call and ask them.

The only competition that could seriously put a dent in the X50 sales is the clock: the longer Dell takes to roll out the X50 to the ppl that purchased it, the more orders will be cancelled and ppl will seek out another brand like HP that can deliver the goods in a timely fashion.

And by the way, even though pricey, I think HP has a Trump Card in it's deck by the name of the hx4700. Don't underestimate the lure of HP, even with a stiff price tag. ;)

I agree. Think back to when the X30 was new and a lot of people said they were tired of waiting and so they went ahead and bought a different PPC even though the X30 was their first choice.

Here is a message I posted on PocketMatrix regarding the Asus a730...

This is a brief overview of the ASUS a730 for those interested....

This is for all those complaining about not seeing any a730 experiences posted. I was the 20th ( I believe) to get mine and am very, very happy with it. I could never say enough good about the device and never could a store be as helpfull and understanding as ProPortable has been. I absolutely love the screen on this thing and could never even think about getting a QVGA screen again! The camera is surprisingly good! I really hated the camera on the z72 and the new rx3715. This has sooo many options it is unbelievable! The only downside is the camera app takes about 4 seconds to load. That is the only hickup, everything else flies on this thing. I had received one unit that had a few bad pixels and it seemed kinda sluggish, I was sent a new unit and it flies and the screen is the most immaculate I have ever seen. I use it on both my PC and eMac without any problems. I highly recommend this unit and ProPortable. Those looking for advice on this unit or a new iPaq or the new x50v need to look no futher. I have used the device for about two weeks now and would never look at getting something different until somethings really start to improve in the ppc world. I am one of those that always want the lates, greatest handheld and this my friends will wet your chops and then some! I have found myself using the device instead of checking Brightahdn and PPC Tech all the time for rumors on the new devices. I had a rx3115 and it is like a heavy brick compared to the feel of this thing. Please people, get this and keep Asus around in the PPC world! This thing makes me speachless and I really hope Asus keeps the software up-to-date and releases a WM10 updated rom. Now let the cases and accessories roll out the door and we are set... Thanks ProPortable and ASUS!!!

I still would go with the X50. More Processor, More Memory. I have a digital camera, that option doesn't weigh much with me.

No WiFi from what I can see...I would much rather have WiFi than a 1.3 megapixel camera!
