Pocket HL2, Pocket Quake, pocket UT, Pocket Battlefield 1942... and wi freakin fi!!!

Okay now I'm just doing some dreaming here, but with the new 3d gfx that can run QIII (which a ton of 3d PC games are/where based off i.e. bf1942) it opens up a world of possibilities for gaming.

Also, please don't (anyone) start rumors that these games will be released or are being developed for the PPC or say that the 2700g can run HL2. This is just dreaming and of course, gfx & physics would need to be toned way down for a pocket version of something like HL2. Just dreaming so lets keep it in context.

Anyway, BT and wifi lend themselves to multiplayer gaming. Imagine just finding a hotspot, starting up Pocket HL2 or Pocket UT or Pocket Battlefield 1942 to and getting into the action anywhere you go!!!

I know the gfx won't be the greatest, but at QVGA or even VGA resolution that 16mb chip should look very nice for a mobile device. AND the point is mobile fragging, not DIII gfx.

I am very excited about the possibilities. It will take a BT input device like a controller or the kyboard and mouse considering the standard buttons and directional pads aren't fragging quality, but a BT controller is do-able with the proper software support.

Its going to take some time and more devices (already in the works) will need to support 3d gaming, but the PPC gaming market might actually gain some validity rather then what it is now (the red headed step child of PDAs).

I can't wait to see what kind of games Intel starts pushing for their chip and what developers jump into the mix. With OpenGL and soon DX support Its got to be a fairly cheap and easy conversion from PC to PPC. There are a TON of great quake III quality games out there that can be given a second life.

Can you imagine playing System Shock II, Dues Ex, Soldier of Fortune II, HL, Max Payne, Serious Sam and all the other classics. Not to mention the possibilities of classic 2d RTS's like Starcraft that might be attracted to the PPC gaming market if it gains some legitimacy.

Like I said its dreaming and if it actually happens it will take some time, but the most exciting thing is that its now a possibility.

I won't be held responsible for people who are stupid enough to claim as fact that these games are being developed just because they read this title on a forum. Especially, with the disclaimer I added.

We already go to great enough lengths to idiot proof our world, to hell with anyone stupid enough to belive these games are in developement after reading this thread or anyone who believes they are in developement after reading the title and seeking no further info (i.e. inside the thread or something that might be atleast semi-official).

In addition, don't believe anything you hear from the people that NEED these idiot proof measures. i.e. Bush;)

yes, I think most old 2d RTS games would be amazing sellers if they got officially ported. Been thinking starcraft and diablo should be high on somebody's list, if blizzard doesn't want to do it, I would hope they would atleast licence their intelectual property.

The one I would love to see the most though would be Septerra Core, but apparently I'm the only person who liked that game

until somebody figures out there is a fairly large, untapped market here we will have to make do with ScummVM. (speaking of which, different engine, same developer, grim fandango on PPC would be nice.

I don't expect this will be a problem ... Intel reported 14 manufacture's are "onboard" for the 2700g ...

AFAIR, it was an RPG. I played it a bit but soon forgot about it after I started playing Silver. I do remember it had a good story that I would have liked to finish, however, but Silver's battle's were just too addictive.

What is Silver? It seems the best games are more difficult to get information on. When I do searches on pocket pc games I only get things like snails! I played and beat the first Everquest. I hought it was ok. Did any of you play the second game?

Keep in mind that Pocket PCs are NOT gaming devices by nature, they are business devices. Most developers are unwilling to develop games for Pocket PCs because the market is so small compared to other systems/consoles.

Think about it in this sense: Macs have a fairly limited selection of games (usually only the really popular games) and Pocket PCs can't even hold a candle to the market share that Apple has.
