I am very interested in the ability to connect the X50 to a projector or monitor using its VGA output, has anyone seen any reports on how this function is in reality? Rarely does it get a mention anywhere.
Thanks
I haven't used it, but in mirror mode (you run a little program to turn mirror mode on), you're going to see the exact same thing on a monitor as you do on your Axim. So for that part of the functionality, it's pretty straight forward (i.e. you don't have to worry about the program being written for the VGA out, as long as it works on the X50v)
It'll get more interesting after some applications are written to take advantage of both screens independantly.
I am also very interested in it too.
I imagine being able to play a movie on a big monitor hopefully the resolution is good enough and good refresh rates too.(colors as well)
I'm most interested in powerpoint presentations. It would be nice to not be tethered to my notebook. There is also a significant "Wow factor" involved as well. :)
Nobody has a presentation kit yet, but the X50V instruction manual does mention a few things about the function. I skimmed over it since it didn't apply to me in any way.
Well I spoke to Dell Australia today, and they claimed they didnt know what I was talking about when I asked about connecting the axim to a monitor or projector!!
Does ANYONE know anything about this function, I thought it would have more interest, maybe its just me!
I think it's the issue that it's just too new. Is the special VGA output cable even shipping yet? It doesn't come standard with the X50V. And then again, I haven't been overly pleased with the "powerpoint" applications that are out there.
However, when the VGA output becomes standard on ALL handhelds, I believe that we will see more emphasis placed on Powerpoint.
Now...make that VGA connection WIRELESS, perhaps to a receiver that connects to the projector...and then these companies are going to be in business. I don't think anyone really wants a handheld tethered to a land line...but a wireless connection showing your PDA's output on a projector...THAT would rock.

Maybe you can control the Axim using BT mouse or remote?
I ordered the prsentation package. waiting for delivery.

I have done similiar but I needed a laptop to do it... (check out the link to my usergroup (mobile tech club) site. Scroll down to 2001 Event on THIS LINK . I did this back in 2001! wireless to a laptop to control the laptop with my PDA and see on both the laptop and pda the powerpoint slide and able to control the powerpoint/annotate on the PDA. used 802.11b adhoc to the laptop :)
