I think we're close (or past) critical mass in the x50 HW Troubles group to establish that there is a problem with Bluetooth file transfers.
http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showthread.php?t=61141
Most(all?) of the problems are in the "to" Axim direction (people seem to be able to copy "from"), and seem to be for file sizes over 30/40/100/500 k (take you pick... either way, files that are not THAT big). I personally have not verified success with small files, only a failure ~25% of the way into some larger (~4M) mp3 files.
This is using OBEX file transfer after pairing with a BT-capable computer (reports for Macs as well as PCs).
There does seem to be a correlation that all(?) problem reports so far are from x50v owners, tho not conclusive (the "I don't have that problem" reports seem to be from x50 non-v owners).
Also I suspect this is not a widely used/tested feature. Half of the replies so far are along the lines of "why would I want to xfer a file that way when I can go WiFi, or sync-mount-copy, or copy directly to the storage card from my computer".
Mike

I agree completely, but like you said: "I had the problem with my antivirus and firewall running". So I was just saying that you needn't run them (now). Still great to keep them for the future however. :)

I've had the same issue with TextMaker and PlanMaker trial versions... I un-installed them to replace them with the full purchased versions and the old icons were not removed... had to go in and do a manual fix. Then, on installation of the purchased versions the icons for the newly installed TM and PM didn't show up in programs... only on the start menu.
Left a message on the SoftMaker boards... no response from them that fixes the problem... yet.
Any hopes of a Dell BIOS fix soon???

Another possible bug. .. or is this a "feature" ?
AvantGo is excrutiatingly slow when I am Not connected via wifi. when I AM connected it is quite fast.
I'm using the new AvantGo connect software & client. The old one loaded offline content fairly quickly... much much more quickly than the current client. I don't know if this is a wifi issue related to the axim or just AvantGo

Long Wait after turn on
I have a problem with a SD card and Pocket Excel & Pocket Word.
If either of these programs are running I get a very long wait, when I turn on my x50v.
This only happens when a SD card is in the slot. I have tried 4 SD cards, and they all take about 10 seconds wait time.
It does not make any difference if a compact flash card is in or not.
It does not happen on my ipaq 2215 w/Pocket PC 2003.
I backed up my x50v and did a hard reset, and the same thing, with nothing loaded.
I hope you will try this on your Pocket PC 2003 SE Pda.
I don't know if it's a x50v problem or a Pocket PC 2003 SE problem.
I turn on Pocket Excel to make 1 entry and it takes so long.

Dell GPS Software....
I'm using the Navteq Software w/ Dell BT-309 GPS receiver. It works faultlessly. I do get a "can not connect to network" error message ever so often. VERY IRRITATING. I can't make it go away. Any suggestions?

I keep getting a bluetooth out of memory error, as well as the usual wifi error (no card in socket 2). I'm about to smash my X50v into tiny little pieces!

If you are running Spd Pocket Plus then this messes with the built in Dell 'switcher' program. I've seen this posted somewhere else but it bears repeating. If you run Spd Pocket Plus (and maybe a few other plug-in programs that I am not aware of) it snags the switcher program so it is constantly trying to engage and for this reason slows down the machine considerably. The auto setting for the processor gets stuck on maximum. One way to fix this is go into what your running processes are and disengaging the switcher program from there manually. I use Memmaid for this but there are other applications too.
Spd Pocket Plus also does not allow the backlight icon to function. The fix for this is to remove the icon and go into the custom settings of Spd to link directly to the Brightness setting control.
These are now known issues with Spd Pocketplus and the X50v which I reported to tech support team at Spd Software House yesterday. They responded in hours saying that these issues would be addressed in the new upgrade but would not give a release date for that. Its a great piece of software and ran flawlessly on my X30Hi (man I miss that little hasselfree guy - big mistake selling it!).
This is just one speed issue resolution, I'm sure there are many others too.

Problematic software on my Dell X50v:
Snood for Pocket PC: worked fine on my Toshiba e570 but firing 'snoods' is really slow on the Dell.
Battery Pack 1.1.1: it does work but every so often, the Close programs button seems to crash the PDA, requiring a soft reset.
Other software seems to run fine. However, how about a version of a web browser that fully supports VGA and Java? I've just tried NetFront 3.1 and it works better than Pocket IE but it does lack features like VGA and better IE 6.0 compatibility. Howzabout a Firefox for Pocket PC? :)

Dell should of included this feature.

I just installed the new ROM update for the X50v that came out on Jan. 20. Worms World Party won't work (it didn't on the old one either), but Gamebox Solitaire and Warlords II don't work now either. Everything starts loading and freezes and I have to soft reset to get everything going again.

been there fixed that ...I HOPE
:) Hi there I had the same problem wit the Targus. first make sure you have only one Targus Keyboard in the program list, I had put by accident 3 two with the new downloaded drivers and one with the mini cd disk. You might have to do a (God Forgive for swearing)...A Hard reset because it just wont go with the software removal program. Then download the new driver:
http://www.targus.com/us/Downloads/IRKeybd_v1_33.exe and install it. Once I removed the extra keyboard icons it did work fine....BTW to use it in landscape, place it with the top to the right and move the IR transmitter at an angle, note where the little tiny IR port is its kinda off center. Good Luck!

Netfront 3.1 for the Toshiba E800 (VGA version, so it should work) doesn't work on the X50v. It just gives errors about not finding the requires paths or something. To bad, it is the best browser out there.

I teach Aircraft Systems for a major Express Delivery company based in Memphis. I bought my x50v specifically as a tool to present PowerPoint lessons to our mechanics. In addition to this primary purpose, I also wanted to download AvantGo to read at airports (because I travel a lot), and finally to hook into our corporate intranet in order to get my work email.
1) The PowerPoint presentations are so degraded that they are of no use. No one can read the material being projected.
2) AvantGo will not load onto the PDA.
3) Our corporate support group has tried repeatedly to get this PDA to recognize our wireless system and it will not! It does not even see a signal.
4) I received the unit on Jan. 4th & I reported all this to Dell on Jan. 22. I wanted to extend my three week return period in order to work this stuff out, or failing that, to get a Return Authorization. It turns out that the three week return period begins when they ship, not when you receive it - so I am seriously out of luck.

I was informed by one of the developers of Snood that the reason their game is slow slow on the X50v is that it "uses a non-standard display that is causing problems with a lot of Pocket PC games, not just Snood". I wonder is this the reason for most of the other games' troubles?

I even have a WiFi network with WPA through RADIUS, works fine with the OddySey client... I Only have to reset the PDA if I want to connect to some network without using oddysey, But this might be a problem with oddysey...
Bugs I encountered:
- TomTom navigator sometimes disappears from the Today screen (not necessarely related to the PDA)
- Bluetooth/Wifi sometimes stay on when you turn off the device (and then the device wakes you in the middle of the night because the batteries are nearly empty)...
Till now I can only state that the X50 (520MHz version) Rocks :)

Ive got quite a few problems too, Ill be reporting this to Dell later today. Heres the list of my problems on my Axim X50v, running the new A02 rom, bought in January 2005 at Dell.dk
Short list:
1. Problem with all day event after sync
2. No sync of some mail items
3. Battery seems to loose power but doesnt
4. Wireless-enabler-button does not enable WLAN
5. "Memory error detected" when changing battery
1) In my calendar which I sync with Outlook 2003 via USB ActiveSync, I have appointments which appear to be allday appointments on the Axim X50v, but on my laptop they are not...my laptop is right :) Thats kinda annoying because it doesnt display any times on the Today-screen. Ive tried with another computer too.
2) ActiveSync does not sync drafts & sent items at all - as I cannot try to sync right now, I dont remember the name of the settings, but I specifically went through the sync options for mail...without making it work. The drafts show up in Pocket Outlook (or whatever its name is), but it never transfers to my laptop.
3) The battery seems to loose power, but it doesnt. Yesterday I had my 2200mAh Mugen battery in the PDA (from aluron.com), having the original Dell 1100mAh battery with me. 8 hours after I had removed the 1100mAh battery from the charger, the batterygage showed 14% when I inserted it! It seems as if it had lost 86% of its power...pretty darn bad :)
I tried softresetting but that didnt help, but then I removed the battery, and the gage showed around 90% again. phew. Very strange though. It seems like the gage get stuck once in a while, it happened again today..it lost 15% in around an hour until I took the battery out and put it back in. The Mugen battery doesnt do this (yet).
4) The Wireless-enabler-button sometimes doesnt work, the popup comes up and it acts like its enabling the wireless function (this only happens with the WiFi-module, I havent experienced problems with the Bluetooth function yet). The green light doesnt come on, and the WLAN-utility just says "WLAN off".
5) Often, when removing the battery - i get the "Memory error detected. Press to correct it". I press it, and i softresets. Quite inconvenient.
This seems to be it, if other problems appear, or if I hear from Dell regarding this, I will edit the post.
Regards,
JJ

When I try to close programs from the switcher bar, I sometimes get a "This program has stopped responding. It may be busy or it may be waiting for a response from you..." blah blah blah, just like in Windows on a regular PC.

I Lied
Hey,
I've been saying for the longest that I was with the 'X5 for life' bunch, but today I ordered an X50V from Dell from their 'Refurbished' lot for $388.00 out the door. It was listed as $349.00 + $10 S&H + $29.00 tax. I took the 2 Business Day Delivery mode because I can't wait!!!!!
I'm going to sell my X5 with most of the attachments that I can't use with the X50V on EBay to recoup the difference.
Question:
How do I get my Contact from my PC Outlook transfered over to my X50V when it comes?
Thanks,
LDJOHN55

I'd an information that I not know if it is known but I think is important:
Tha problem with the Bluetooth expired license: This can be solved adjusting clock just after an hard reset and before usign BT or WIFI for the first time. Even with Rom Versions A00.

With Mapopolis the bottom toolbar icons are hidden by a series of colored lines. Does anyone else experience this?
