question about video encoding

Ok so I am trying to get the best quality video possible from the x50 in VGA. question #1: What exactly is the Mux rate?
#2: The bit rate seems to change the frame rate quite a bit, but the quality of the picture doesn't change much, what is the best bit rate to frame rate ratio?
The video does look a lot better in VGA than it does in QVGA. Once I figure out the best combo of mux, bit, and motion capture, I will let everyone know but if anyone knows more than me, please post your knowledge.

I just stumbled across a DVD site I think is worth sharing. Go to http://www.doom9.org, they seem to have some EXCELLENT how-to articles, glossary, and TONS of FREE downloads that decode, encode, and make PPC movies a reality.

The easiest method for encoding divx from dvd source is..

1. Rip movies to hard drive with DVD Decrypter
http://www.dvddecrypter.com/

2. Encode movies to divx with PocketDivXEncoder
http://divx.ppccool.com/

3. Watch divx movie on ppc with Betaplayer
http://divx.ppccool.com/

All of the above are free.. PocketDivxEncoder gives you sliders to control bitrate, volume and brightness enhancement, as well as target framesize.. You can pick the Archos AV300 profile for 640x480 divx files..

I use two simple programs to rip and encode movies to windows media files. I need to run to school, but if anyone is interested I'll post the program names. Its the easiest way I've found to do the process.

ps one program is an easy to use DVD ---> other file types ripper that costs about $25 I think. It may be more (its been a while since I got it), but I think there are other programs you can get that will do it for free, but aren't quite as easy.
