The X50v has lots of ROM space -- something my iPAQ 1910 didn't have! It seems that with that space, I can choose to install programs to either RAM or ROM.
What do you do?
With ROM, the programs would stay in memory even if the battery were fully discharged. So why would I install to RAM instead? Is there an inherent benefit -- noticeably faster loads, for instance?

There are TONS of threads on this subject: look around. Some programs suggest to be installed in RAM, but those are rare. I would imagine that most of them could be installed in ROM. I am installing everything in ROM and addressing problems as they arise. None so far...
Some programs only work properly when installed in RAM, Microsoft Reader for WM2003SE is a good example. Other than that the "conventional wisdom" is that anything that adds a today plugin to your setup should be placed in RAM too.

I installed everything to ROM, but it's so SLOW. Seems even slower than my Transcend 45x 512MB SD card to install programs there. And it takes Baseball Addict about 3x as long to load from Built-In Storage than it did on my 512MB SD card in my iPAQ 4150.

I have an Axim X50v by the way
Has anyone else seen this happen? I'm surprised that it is so much slower. So far so good for me.
Actually, built-in storage is what I was referring too. ROM is a little bit misleading since it is actually non-volatile RAM like a memory card. I leave the normal RAM for program memory. I just wish ActiveSync would allow you to set your My Documents folder anywhere, like built-in storage or memory card. I guess I'll have to re-install MightySync instead.
how do I save to RAM, I always save to "built-in storage"
I've been out of it as far as PPCs are concerned but I remember a while back that you didn't want to write to "Built-In Storage" b/c it can only be written to a limited number of times versus Ram.
Also, how do you check the ROM storage capacity? I have an X3 w/o Wifi (400 mz).
