Mapping hardware buttons in Windows Media Player
Got my X50v and tried mapping the hardware buttons in WMP10. it doesn't work. I can select the funtion, click on "Assign" and I get a dialog asking me to "Press button to assign". When I try to click on a button like the Calendar hardware button, it launches Calendar instead of mapping the button. Anyone else see this behavior?
I also noticed that PQV (picture viewer) won't map hardware buttons correctly either. But PQV has other more serious problems like it's file dialog is completely messed up in WMSE.

Anyone have this issue?
I'm wondering if maybe Battery Bar messed things up.

Same here, I guess it may be a change. Only the D-pad's four functions and the center button can be reassigned, it seems, in WMedia.

try using gsplayer.... i've had no problems with that one and mapping buttons. It even has a feature where you can turn off the screen and still listen to music... much better than WMP10.

I mapped to the dpad buttons. Center = Screen Off, Up is play, down is pause, leave right & left dpad to forward & back
thats usually the easy buttons for me to find anyway :)
worked great last night listening to streaming radio via my 802.11b wireless DSL connection ... turned off the screen after launching the radio link.

But that doesn't give you to use the side buttons or any others. Is this a wmp problem and if so who fixes it? I shouldn't be more limited than the previous version, it should be better.

WMP problem
Looks like a WMP problem to me.
I have the X30 and just upgraded the ROM to try out WMP 10. I had the same trouble with the buttons described here, plus I couldn't get it to play any of my MP3s or videos that worked fine with WMP 9. I've since downgraded back to A02 and WMP works again for me.
About the buttons: They don't work the way we want because MS designed WMP10 to work with a phone, not a PDA. It's expecting you to press buttons on a phone keypad instead of the application buttons on the PDA. You can use the keyboard, etc to select the buttons to use for WMP. Set it up to use a # to toggle the screen mode--then figure out how to press the button again to toggle the screen back on (I'm guessing the power button will do the trick.)
Hopfully they'll do something to fix this soon. Now I'll have to go to the X30 forums to find out why I can't seem to play anything on mine with WMP 10...
I hope this helps!

Wmp 10
I have experienced this and Dells customer service
The latest answer I got after explaining in little words that I do not have an X5 but an X50V (They got really confused on this) is that they want to replace my device.
I really think I got the dumbest tech support guy in the world today. Oh well.
Will keep posting further info. I know this is an easy fix if they will just do it.
