I just discovered the working version of ButtonMapper yesterday and tried DoubleLauncher this morning. Both work on my Axim X50v.
DoubleLauncher is easier to set up and I like the 4 easy settings - press once, press and hold, double press, or double press and hold (or this last one can be triple press). However, they can only be assigned to the buttons globally.
Vito's app is more complex. Not only can you assign buttons globally, but you can set specific buttons in individual programs. This can be very useful. You can also set up button assignment to record screen tap macros. However, you are limited to 2 button pressing options for any setting (global or individual) - press and press-hold. If I'm wrong on this last thing, please let me know!
My take is that, if you just need a few more options with your buttons, go for DoubleLauncher. If you want to be able to set up programs indivually, get ButtonMapper. Both are the same price - $9.95, I think.
I'm still undecided on which to get. I like being able to set scroll up, down, right, and left in ebook readers, but not having these settings global. However, I'm not sure just how many special instances I'll need in indivual programs. However, Vito's program is definitely geekier and I find myself drawn to the geeky...
