Sync status is on device?

For some reason, next to the Contacts icon in ActiveSync it says "Sync status is on device." Does anyone know what that means? It appears that the contacts do not go through the same synchronization as the rest of the ActiveSync data. I don't know what's going on. Tried resetting - nuttin'.

On the ActiveSync window on the PC - where you watch the status of the file (Outlook, device documents) synchronization.

Look at your AS settings to see if there's a check in the box next to "Enable synchronization with a server", I had this occur twice in the past 33 days, with my calendar, and the other with contacts,

Strange, as I've never changed my AS settings since setting them up

I had the exact same thing and the only change I did was when synchronizing it ask if I wanted to sync device data to PC, Sync both and a third option that I cant remember. I selected to have the PC to ovewrite the PPC.
