Migrating from Palm to Outlook???

Okay, so while I, and many others here, wait for our delivery from Dell, I thought I would get ready for the blessed event. I have been a user of Palm Desktop (v 4.1.4) and I am having some trouble getting my contacts into Outlook. (I can retype my 30 – 40 Tasks, if I have to.)

When using the export/import route as a .csv file I can get to a screen that would map fields from Palm Desktop to Outlook (2002 SP3). But it seems it wants me to map data from Palm for EVERY contact into the proper fields in Outlook. This might be more work than simply typing them all in again! If I map all fields for one contact it doesn’t seem to import all of my contacts. (Export/import as vcards didn’t work either.)

While this all might be easy to do once I actually own my X50v, but I wanted to start using Outlook instead of Palm Desktop asap. I tried something like Pocket Mirror but it sent all my Outlook contacts to my Palm III into a separate file from my Palm contacts. I was not able to merge them all together.

Any ideas for a free program for a one time transfer of my Palm data to Outlook, that can actually be used before my pocket PC gets here?

Thanks,
Bob

This is what i did: I sank my Palm so all the info was current. then I made a backup copy on my pc. Than I deleted the palm desktop from my pc, ran the original Palm cd and set it to sync with outlook. For my first sync with outlook, I set the options to: 'handheld overwrites outlook' and all was well :)

Thanks, I could see how that would do it. I just played around a little more with a small "mock" contact list in Palm and could see how the mapping to Outlook is supposed to work. When I get home to my desktop with all the addresses I'll try this route: Export from Palm desktop to a csv file. Then use Excel to place header names in the fields of the first record. (The first record it seems is not exported into Outlook.) For this first record it's important when doing the mapping to map EVERY field that you might want to import to Outlook.

When you did it your way did all the data get to the appropriate fields, or did you have to massage any of the data? Thanks for the idea. --Bob

How about beaming all the information from the Palm to the Pocket PC?

To be honest I don't remember. I made the switch to outlook about a year ago. I just remember it being cake.

Now there's an easy answer. Does Palm change the information in anyway that wouldn't make it compatible with a ppc? I know I can't view pictures that i had on my sd card for my Palm on my ppc.
