Axim X50v - An Incredible Device

This is the second week I'm using my Axim X50v and I'm amazed by its capabilities.

Originally I didn't buy it for entertainment purposes.

First, I loaded it with about 10 reference books (some I used in my old iPAQ)which I regularly use.

I bought a 4 GB CF card last weekend. After installing it I loaded all the journal articles (in pdf) releated to my research projects, so that I'll always have my reference articles handy.

Then I loaded the powerpoint slides. I always use real VGA mode and they look incredibly beautiful with the "Pocket slide Show".

I can surf any website and read articles or the news as if I'm using my laptop. The difference is that the web can easily go with me anywhere, including the bathroom and in the bed under the comforter.

Today I transferred some of my favorite music from my external drive without any compression wirelessly to my CF card. The quality of the sound is not that great with the native speaker. But when I used my wireless headset (Sennheisser HDR 85)it reproduced the sound with Hi fidelity. Even with a regular head set I found it far better. I would suggest not to transfer the music files via active sync (to avoid compression). Use Resco Fle explorer then copy it and paste it to your desired folder in CF card. Same could be true with any video and other multimedia file.

I didn't install any games. So............

Now, I'm creating customized database. I think I can do a lot more to meet my professional needs.

I know many people are spending $200 to $400 for an MP3 player. I found it would be foolish not to spend that money for the Axim and buy a CF/SD card. With that, one could have a full set of mobile entertainement center(music, video, movie, games etc. ......)

A note of caution!

The Axim X50v is extremely addictive. I already ordered an axim for my wife and the Dell GPS reciever.

I got about 35 % discount for both the Axims. However, the warranty for both devices and high capacity battery, CF card, and the softwares I bought is costing me more than $1500.

But, it is sure to bring satisfaction in both my professional and personal life! :)

You are correct. It is great! I'm not too sure about the "under the comforter part, though!!

This is soooo cool, reading your thread has made me even more excited to get my x50v. You like the CF card better than SD? Is one better than the other? I didn't know you could get a 4GB DF card, how much was that?

I thought CF card is faster (not 100% sure) and cheaper than SD card. However, I got CF card because I needed large storage.

I bought this 4GB CF card from JR world for $299 + Tax

Wow! A 4GB CF card! I would be in heaven. You'll have to keep us posted on its performance as I'm not sure anyone else on the site has a card that large.

yup, CF cards are faster, cheaper, and have higher storage capabilities than SD cards do now. (If you do want a SD card, I would reccomend loading games/programs on it or music, but leave all video stuff on the CF card.)

Darn, I wish I would have ordered a CF card with my x50v. I was debating between SD and CF and got SD just because it will work in my wife's x30h as well. Oh well, live and learn.

If you need faster card try "Ultra II CompactFlash Cad". I found JR World (www.jr.com) would give you the best deal.
