I love my X50v and agree with SOCPSY that the only disappointment I had was with the preshipping experience and Dell CS. The unit however has made me forget some of that and it has lived up to my expectations.

I to was livid with all the problems with pre-shipping. I'm quite satisfied with the X50v. I switched over to from a Palm Tungsten E after it was lost, had no problem making the transition. Pocket Informant and Calligrapher are must haves though, I don't think I would be as satisified without these additional pieces of software.
Nope it is really the sytlus and the way you tap the screen!
Hendrixus
I don't think so. Granted the screen sensitivity is of a harder touch than most others (about the same as the Asus Pocket PCs) but it only tends to miss-registering taps when I'm using the virtual keyboard which leads me to thinking that it's a problem with the registering of multiple taps in quick bursts of time.
Deleriously Happy with my X50v... can I say.. WOW...
I'm learning all kinds of things, trying out the various software goodies that are available, playing with it all over the house in fact :) I took it downstairs to show my mom... and all she could say is Wow (guess I know where I get it from :) )
My wireless network setup went so easy I didn't realise it was working at first ;p I did have a problem looking at this website the first time I tried, but I realised I hadn't clicked the adapter thing!
This thing is beeeyutiful! I'm about to order the BT Think Ouside Keyboard (found one from another link, on PriceGrabber for $82. shipped!)
The only thing I can't figure out (so far!)is... how do I get email when I'm just on the wireless and not connected to the pc? I see no send/receive button... so maybe I'm missing something ? (when I did one email downstairs clicking the email send sent it to the outbox and there it stayed)
I'm considering getting one of the wifi accounts so I can use this when I'm out and about... I've got a nextel phone, so I can't get it from them. Is setting up the connection easy? I did so little for the home network setup that I'm guessing I'll get stuck with the regular one :rolling:
Thrilled with my X50v in every way except i miss the X5's jog dial. I remapped the record and wifi buttons on the left to work like one a little bit, but I still miss it.
that I I really want a good flip case and there arent any out yet...
A couple of things that I would forward to the engineering department (whreas I am a Quality Engineer). would be :
1. That Power...a much better standard battery is needed.
2. PIE...The notion that people use "helper" plugins to make this work to their liking is troubling and Microsoft should get on the ball to make this prog work as it does on a PC.
3. User interface. Bluetooth is great and so is the stylus. as technology gets smaller I envision our PPC's will be transformed into a small watch-size device we will place on the table and a hologram keyboard and screen will spring up in front of our faces (similiar to hologram messages in StarWars)
All in all a great unit and these are not really complaints just observations.. Dell hit it out of the park here.
I'm happy with mine....overall. I've gone through Palm and PocketPC's over the past years, starting out with a Palm Pro, then a Palm IIIx, then an iPAQ (3650?) then back to PalmOS with a Sony Clie, then an iPAQ 1940 followed by a Treo600. Finally I have the X50V.
I have decided that I *do* like Windows Mobile more than PalmOS. It just seems more powerful and useable and I do like the ability to store data where *I* want to, in real files and not in silly PalmOS databases somewhere. Having said that, I am aching for a VGA device with a built in mobile....a Windows Mobile 2005 version of the Treo but with a bigger screen.....
The X50V...love the screen and was very pleasantly surprised about the size of the unit itself. I was expecting something bigger, having not actually handled one prior to buying (seems very hard to actually try this sort of thing out here in the UK). But it feels about the same size as my old 1940, though I am sure it is a big bigger.
I love the dual expansion slots and am happy with the CF performance. However I have a problem with the SD card that Dell supplied - it's a Sandisk and seems to want to forget the contents of the card once ever few weeks. The 1GB SD card has now been designated a "non-safe" area and only easily replaceable stuff like mp3's, films and TomTom maps go on there.
I am extremely happy with the WiFi performance. I have a Centrino laptop that I am typing on right now and I can't get a wifi signal in my lounge using the laptop. With the Axim, I get a signal everywhere in the house. Can't understand why or how the reception on the Axim is go good compared to other devices I have tried.
Not really used bluetooth, but have had none of the troubles others have had with not being able to activate both the BT and WiFi at the same time.
Have massively impressed people with BetaPlayer and my own DVD rips, and the ability to take the memory cards from other peoples cameras and slot them into the SD or CF slot and take copies of photo's that they have only just taken.
What I'm not so happy about:
The battery, like everyone else. Using WiFi I get less than two hours. Not bad I guess, but like all gadget-freaks, I want to use this ALL THE TIME! :-)
The overall speed....it feels sluggish and slower than my old 1940. I have done all the right things, including setting the processor speed up to maximum and making sure I have plenty of free RAM and close down all apps, but it still feels sluggish. I guess it's just the fact that the screen itself takes more processor power to move around due to four times as many pixels. I need to find other people using other 600Mhz+ Pocket PC's and see if their's feel the same.
The power connector....bloody hell Dell! What's wrong with just putting the power input as a small round hole, on the side of the unit? Did any of their testers try using one of these plugged into the mains when laying in bed? The thing is awkward to use and hold with the power lead/adaptor plugged into the bottom.
Overall....9/10 I think. It'd get the extra one if it just felt quicker and they moved the power input.
