Are you satisfied with the X50v?
If you are, just say so but also if you arn't. What could be changed? What are you not satisfied with. What kinda troubles are you experiencing. And what really do you like.
Whats your overall opinion.
I myself am basically satisfied with the X50v. It could come with a better standard battery, but I already bought one (2200mAh) from Ebay for less then DELL asks for it.
Now I read (at Brighthand among others) that there seems to be a screen issue, the sensitivity of the screen. I have experienced that it isn't the screen sensitivity but the stylus and the way of holding and using it.
It has a rather "strange" tip, rather thick. You really have to told it straight on order for the screen to respond as it should respond and not tapping it with the side of the tip.
I have tried this out on the OZVGA screen with a very small font and I was amazed that the screen responded immidiatly after tapping it. I also adjusted the screen as good as I could, before.
Thought, I do experience a slow refresh in the screen when changing a picture or with in a app. But this could be the app. and probely can be solved with an ROM-update, in the nearby future.Though maybe this is bacause it is a VGA screen.
Given the fact I paid 464 excl.postage I am satisfied with the x50v. I think you get what you pay for, nothing more nothing less.
I wonder if one could say the same if you would have bought the HP 4705 which is $250 more and seems to have more problems too about 250 :) It is the name you pay for too!
Share you're opinion.

Overall, I am quite satisfied. While I experienced a fair amount of angst over preshipping issues with Dell, it was definitely worth the wait. :approve:
Before my purchase, I was faced with the choice of buying a new laptop, waiting for one of the "mini-laptops" (e.g., flipstart), or buying a nice ppc. I do very little with a laptop that can't be done with the X50, so the X50 is was.
The screen is beautiful and I don't have any issues with its sensitivity at this point (I haven't had a pda since my Palm IIIc, so I have no comparisons). It plays video very well and the apps I've used so far seem to run just fine on it. I've had no problems with the wireless. Aside: A few days ago at a coffee break, several colleagues were discussing an issue and someone mentioned that he would "look that up on the net" when he got back to his office. I said, "Why wait?" and plopped my X50 on the table, connected to the server, and found the information in question. :approve:
If I had one thing to change, I might rather see a jog dial rather than two buttons on the side. I remapped them for scrolling, but it just doesn't feel quite right. I'm sure I'll get used to it. Yes, the battery is a bit anemic (I guess that's two problems), but I hope a good replacement from Mugen will solve that problem.
Great machine!

I received my x50 and Have been satisfied so far. It seemed sluggish at first, but that has since gone away. I turned off the Auto mode in the CPU control and set t to 624mhz (it was scaled to 208 for most stuff which is probably causing the problem). Also I found the 3 second wait when shuttin off goes away when WiFi is turned off since it doesn't have to power that down first.
As to the questions above:
#1. No You do not NEED ozVGA or SE-VGA to use the PocketPC. The pocket PC runs at 640x480, but all the fonts and such have been adjusted so that they look about the same size as on a 320x240 device - albeit much much nicer. ozVGA and SE-VGA allow you to switch to true VGA mode and turn off the "enlargment" of the fonts, etc. MAkes things much smaller to use, but its handy for some stuff like web browsing.

As I understand, Standard WM2003SE does not make applications designed for QVGA to run in 640x480 VGA. Instead it uses "Double Pixeling" technique to make the screen looks sharper, which might cause problems such refreshing rate in GPS software such iGuidance. So the idea is using Tweak2K2 to disable the double pixeling for the chosen application and use OZVGA/SE_VGA to make fonts readable.

Overall I'm very happy with the Axim X50v. :) You can see that in my post here.
I always use the true/real VGA mode. This mode (with SE_VGA) increase the start-up and turn off time slightly longer. OzVGA improves it significantly. Also some of the reference books I use(these were written for previous operating system and non-VGA)runs slightly slower in real VGA mode.
Also I've changed the CPU speed from auto to 624MHz.
The slowness in part also related to the number of programs running. To really close them I use the switcher bar and that speeds up both the start up and turn off time. I still do not know what plug-in really closes a program and yet compatible with the real VGA mode
With all these adjustments I don't see the start up and turn off lag anymore :)

I am totally satisfied with mine. It is one nice machine. I haven't tried wifi yet because I haven't bought a router yet, but that is soon. I did have one problem yesterday. When I put it in the charger, which was hooked up to the USB port, the screen all of a sudden went kind of blank with colored lines going vertically down the screen. It scared me. I took it back off the cradle and put it back in and the screen returned. It hasn't happened since.

about screen sensitivity: The sceen is sensitive enough. but there seems to be a lag before it exepts the tap. It's not that the Axim misses the tap, it's just a slight delay in exepting it.

Im hoping when my arrives I will be impressed with the screen. My current ppc an Asus a620 has problems with the screen miss registering my hits. If I go for the letter G on the keyboard it will often press down T or Y. But it doesnt always do it, sometimes it works fine. Its very odd and anoying ;).

I don't think that's quite true. You can use VGA when the app is written for it. WM2003SE can't handle VGA as it sould be and therefor those app. like OZVGA are written. But that's another discussion.
This about how if you like your X50(v)

I think the X50v is a beautiful device and I have enjoyed surfing the web with it. However, mine has a serious problem with the screen alignment. I have another one on the way which should arrive tomorrow. Hope the next one is problem free because I don't think I have the patients to go through the process a 3rd time. This is my first PPC and it is difficult enough making the switch from PalmOS without defective harware!
