Audible.com

I do not know if anyone here likes audio books but this service is a GREAT complment to the X50v. I am using it to get books and the Wall Street Journal on audio daily and listen to it on my way to work on the X50v. Just thought everyone might want to take a look especially if you like aduio books or mags.

I use this almost on a daily basis. I travel between 6 cities on a regular basis teaching Electronics. After a while, you know every bump in the road. I love listing to audio books. I have about 20 hours of books on my SD card now. Great way to pass the road miles.

I've been an Audible subscriber since 1999. I love that I can carry multiple books on my Axim. I listen in the car during my 45 minute commute each way and while I do work around the house. It was even enjoyable painting my walls all day yesterday while listening to a book. I hated to stop! I recommend this service to anyone who enjoys "reading".

Audible is a great service, I used to download books to my ipod. Problem is when driving listening to books just doesn't work for me. The other problems, sometimes the narrarator was dull (this is spotty though, some were very good). The big problem was I read a heckuva alot faster than the narrarators talked. I wound up with way to many words than I had time to listen to. As a service though, Audible is top notch, but I prefer printed books.

I plug an FM modulator into the earphone jack so the audio book comes through the car speakers.

Before I got my Axim I used to burn the audio books to CD. Each CD only held a little over an hour, so a 7 hour book would take up 6 or 7 CD's. I can fit about 70 hours on a 256k sd card.

I wandered through the website, but can't find real pricing information. After the first free month, is it $14.95 a month for unlimited downloads... or are there varying plans?

I've been a long time Audible customer too.

Depending on the AudibleListener plan, it's either one book and one month's subscription for $15, or 2 books for $22, per month.

Or you can just buy the books outright. But a monthly plan is a huge deal as usually one book is at least $15.

Either way, the books are cheaper than buying them retail, you can keep them in Audible format, or burn them to CD's. Once you buy the book, it stays in your library regardless of whether you are in the AudibleListener plan or not, and is available anytime, as many times as you need to download it.

The rights management is handled by "activating" the device or computer that you are using to listen with. You can have several devices (within limits) and can change them "deactivate", like when you get a new Pocket PC for example.

Outside of a person just not liking Audio Books in general, I haven't heard of anyone who doesn't like Audibles service.
