x50v vs hx4700

i'm in the process of deciding which vga pda to get, axim x50v or hx4700.
Considering this is a axim site, i can guess which one will be recommended :)

However, I need it sold to me. How about the performance of the axim, i hear some peeps has had slow screen re-drawing? Is this common? or is it their settings. The performance is not great, slower than hx4700 and axim 30. Is this the pda itself or the software not taking full advantage of certain features?

I've also heard some peeps has had flickering of the screen. How common is this?

I currently have the HP4150, which is a great pda, which has more of less everything. But i feel i need something with a slightly larger and better screen.

The RAM is the same as my 4150. Can i install some apps in the ROM? I use to have the same thing on my Palm and use this utility to install apps in the ROM. Is there something similar on PPC?

TIA

fyi, the slowness in screen is not noticeable with the x50v at all, when compared to the x30 i previously owned.

with new drivers and support coming up, the i2700g graphics card (3d) is a much better choice for what the x50v can offer, compared to the ati imageon 2d video accelerators that the ipaq has.

depends on your useage, u can prefer one or the other.

bigger screens? hx.
better graphics? x50v
multimedia? both are fine
gaming? x50v, coz hx uses "touchpad"...
flickering screen? not anymore on both devices.

there are many other devices to choose from, but i choose x50v for a reason - i see the potential in the i2700g grahpics chip. :)

just my $.02

i would say the bigger screen is nice, but you will get the better graphics chip in the x50v. Also the hp has just as many probs as the x50v (just look over at ipaqhq.com)

i think the size of the x50v is also really alot better, plus then you have the touchpad on the 4705, you have to be the judge with the touchpad, some like it some dont...

I don't think it is worth spending $250 more for a better and bigger screen. Not everything is Hunky Dory on the 4700, lockup's, memory leaks and so on!

After finally receiving my x50v I can say it was well worth the wait and hassle.

Its a killer gaming and multimedia machine now that Picard is on the scene.

Price is better then the 4700.

Its small size is very nice.

With the 2200 mA battery it lasts forever.

2700g has tons of gaming and multimedia potential.

The vga screne isn't quite as large and bright, but it still totally blows away any qvga screne.

IMO, the x50v has a few minor drawl-backs, but has almost every feature available in pocket pc's in a tiny package and for a very good price. It doesn't have USB host, but it does have vga out and the first 3d gaming chip & it has video acceleration.

Basically you get the best of all worlds in the x50v.

Thanks to Picard.

I recently sold my 4700 and just recieved a x50v a few days ago. So far im glad I switched. The 4700 was decent but I just couldnt adjust to the touchpad, the lack of diagonals being the biggest issue. Also the video chip in the 4700 was the same old ATI chip that is getting a bit long in the tooth, even ATI has stated so and has a new processor with 3d capability coming soon. The screen on the 4700 was more vibrant but at the same time there was tint to it that made colors look kinda fake, I guess thats probably not the best description but it looked like there was perhaps too much yellow? GAPI performance on the 4700 was faster than the stock x50v but with no diagonal control it made gaming pointless anyway. The gapi problem seems to be solved for the most part with Picard's gapi tweak.

So far im happy with the switch, its plenty speedy, looks gorgeous and after selling my 4700 used, I still had enough cash left to pick up a case and an extra battery. The real concern for me is the future, and with other devices coming out with the 2700 chip or another opengl compatable 3d chip I figured it would be better to stay ahead of the curve.
