x50v graphics better than Nintendo DS?

Does anyone know if the x50v is capable of better graphics than the new Nintendo DS?

I'm going to have to say yes because no matter what people or facts may say about the DS' GFX chip and hardware being superior to that of the X50v's in terms of gaming, the 320x240 resolution screen completely limits the amount of graphical goodness (eg. detail) you'd have been able to enjoy with that thing.

Not Likely

It would be great to know that an x50v is that much better in graphics processing than the DS. But the DS is a dual processor machine. It has the graphics capabilities of at least the N64 to Gamecube-ish level. The 2700G has graphics capabilities roughly comparable to the Sega Dreamcast, which is hot as hell, but most likely not as good as DS. So for now we will just have to be happy with owning the most powerful 3D capable PPC. :)

Regardless of which is more powerful, I love them both. I picked up my DS with Mario 64 DS first thing yesterday with a ton of store credit I had at Blockbuster and man am I loving it. My toy time is spent between my new axim x50m and my DS. Love them both.

50v is great, but no game or app (other than dell precompiled stuff, it's just sad) is taking adv of its hardware, so until then 1 more vote for Nintendo DS.

Let's see, you've got:
Games:
-Stuntcar Extreme
-Enigmo

Multemedia:
-BetaPlayer (video)
-PocketTV (they are apparently working on taking advantage of the 2700G)

Hardware:
-Optional Video-out cable from Dell

Don't know what more you could have asked for in the first month of release of the X50v.

Not sure about betaplayer though, i know it works fine on x50v under VGA, but considering the fact there has been no major beta release recently, i don't think it is actually taking adv of the 2700g. BTW, if i remember correctly, betaplayer developers are located in west europe, they might not even have a x50v yet.

oh, and i will take mario kart double dash over stuntcare ex any sec, anyone with me here?

I only have one extra one and am also waiting for the right time on ebay. I played Madden a little bit and the graphics were ok, I think the PSP will be better.

It should be more powerful then the DS. As someone said, the DS is like a N64 and the x50v has a chip much like the Dreamcast. The DS is pretty much a N64 and I think the 2700g is capable of superior gfx. Only time will tell.

Remember nintendo always uses poor resolution textures and covers it up with rich colors, so the games look better in a cartoonish way , compared to less cartoonish games.

As it stands, both should be nice gaming devices, but of course, DS will have superior dev support .

As it stands right now though, there are no good games for the DS or the 2700g yet. Sure the DS has a few N64 rehashes, but I'd rather not play Mario 64 again or any other ported nintendo game. I've had enough of that with all the NES & SNES games for the GBA.

Considering everything for consoles upto the PS1 can be played for free (if you own the games of course;) ) on the ppc the librarary of the x50v ain't so bad while waiting for support for thr 2700g.

We've got the standardized OpenGL ES 3d engine though.

Yes! Betaplayer's been optimized to utilize the 2700G chip found int the X50v. People have obtained over 130% benchmarks in benchmarking 4mbps 720DPI HDTV (except using a DivX codec) videos! Also, this is thanks to Picard's X50v finally arriving! :approve:

Yes, SCE is a POS. I'd rather watch paint dry.

You can't really compare these two as the X50v hasn't even begun to realize it's limits in terms of performance and features.

BTW: Saying from Toronto! (really should update my location in my profile)

Kinda disappointed with the DS.. seems like a big brick.. plus my machine has a dead pixel on the upper screen.. underwhelmed with the gfx in metroid, looks like a ps1 game. surprised that most of the reviews are so glowing.. Only thing I do like about it is that the screen seems brighter than the GBA SP when running GBA games and the dual speakers are great..

Looking forward more to the PSP.. if user written executables can be run off of the mem card then we would have THE perfect portable emulator machine.. if it can play divx movies well I might be leaving my x50v at home.. I hardly use the "PDA" functions, just the multimedia and games..
