Hmm Can't Install Activsync

Hello everyone!

This is my first time here. I got my Dell Axim X50v last Thursday. So far I love it. I'm able to connect through my wireless router and all. One thing I'm not happy about though is that I can't install Activsync in my PC which is running WinXPPro SP2. I've ran the CD Dell sent with it and nothing. It seems that the files are copied but at the end it's suppose to show a window with steps to hook up your Axim. I've tried everything. Even called Dell. It's funny because I installed it in my other PC running Win2KPro and it works fine. Dell Tech told me it might be something not allowing Activsync to load or whatever. I'm getting very frustrated with this. If I can't fix it, then I'm gonna return it. I apologize if there was a thread already about this. Please help. Thanks.

Armando

It sounds like it may be a permission issue. Is this computer a home computer or business? Does this computer belong to a domain? Check to ensure that you have Administrator privileges on this box. You need to be a local or domain Administrator to install this software.

Just a thought.

Also try the following:

- disable firewall
- disable antivirus
- disable popup stoppers
- close down all other programs running
- try uninstalling/reinstalling
- make sure you have the latest version Link

BTW, welcome to Aximsite!

are you runnign more than one log in name on the computer?
if so are you the main one or does someone else have the admin priveldges like stated above? that will be the problemmost likely.
the admin will be able to download it and then put it into your log in shared file hopefully.

Hello everyone! Thanks for your replies. I'm the Computer Administrator. I don't think this computer belongs to a domain. I've tried disabling Windows Firewall, McAfee Personal Firewall, the antivirus program, disconnecting my cable modem, disabling my start-up programs using MSCONFIG, and maybe more things but nothing seems to work. Microsoft Outlook is installed. I had Outlook Express and I uninstalled to see if that was the problem and nothing. I just don't get it why I installed Activsync in my other computer running Win2KPro without any problems. I don't know what else to do. Thanks.

Check the Services

Righ click My Computer and select Manage. Click to expand Services and Applications. Click on Services and see if Activesync is running. If not, start the application and make sure that this service is set to start automatically. This may also be a problem.

When you install Activesync does the MSI installer complete? Keep posting and we will get you through this (hopefully).

One other thing. I believe the installer extracts the files first, then launches the installer. It could be that you are seeing the extraction portion, but then it is not initializing the installer. I believe it tells you where it is extracting the files to, so if this is the case, navigate to the extraction directory, and launch the setup from there. Again, just a suggestion, not sure if the installer still works like this. I ran into this in the past myself :)

Hello everyone! I got the problem solved. It's not only myself having this issue. With a little help from the world wide web I managed to find a solution. My friend had the same problem but since I knew how to deal with it, it took me a minute to fix it. Thanks to everyone who took their time to help me out. I'm very grateful. Time to sync up! :)
