Help needed for streaming media thru network

Hi everybody, can someone show me how to setup my X50v so I can play my video and mp3 from my network's storage without copying first to the ppc memory?

I've read that I need to map the network drive first, but I don't know how to do that. As you may guess, I'm brand new to the ppc world, so any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

an easy way is to map the network as a drive (if you use resco file explorer, you can do so in the program)

then create a .m3u file (playlist) that points to that network resource/file. i managed to get mine to work and streams quite fast :)

Thanks Kazuni for the tip, I'll give it a try. However, is it possible to map a network drive with the default WM2003SE file explorer? I current don't have Resco, and would like to see if WM by itself can map network drives or not.

Thanks again.

First thing first!! YOU MUST ENABLE FILE SHARING ON YOUR PC!!

You must also select the drives/files/folders that you want to share. Right click on your files/folder/drivess and choose the option to “share”.

Also, just for the first time, drop ALL firewalls and don't add a password. Once you've successfully connected and can stream media, one by one, layer back on protection making sure to test your abilty you connect and stream with each addition of security. This is done so that if you have a problem you'll know EXACTLY what is causing it.

Best of luck. :)

If you don't have Resco, just use the free Net use program to map the drives. It works very well and is relatively easy to use.

It is not necessary to map a drive to stream media from the desktop. (in fact, I don't think this even fits the definition of streaming)

Using Windows media encoder 9 (free download), you can setup a stream over your home network. Then in WMP on your PPC (or any of your networked PC's), use the "Open URL" to play the stream.

I now have wireless access to ActiveSynch, so I know I can talk to my PC! I have a Shared Documents file on it, and disabled my personal and Windows firewall.
I'm still unable to "see" a network/drive/folder on my PC in Resco Explorer. "My Device" is the only shown folder, and using the "Map Drive" icon does diddly. Again, and this is getting to be a habit :rolling: am I missing something simple??
