Ok, I've been a user of PPC's since WinCE 1.0, but I'm stumped on this one. I need to install Outlook on a laptop so I can sync a couple of X50s with it. I put the CDROM that came with the X50v in the drive, it says it's ready to install, but Outlook has a big 'X' next to it. Apparently Outlook is NOT on the CDROM to install.
Anybody else have this problem? I saw one post at the Dell site about this (unanswered by Dell, of course).
On a totally unrelated note, I wanted to activate MSReader, but when I go to Microsoft.com I get an error about using an operating system older than 2002! I also saw one post at Dell about this (also unanswered). I did the copy files trick from a previously registered version, so I'm running, but has anyone else seen that error and how did you get past it?
I had that error when I installed MS Reader to BIS, activation worked fine once I installed it to main memory. Cleared up the Readers numbers instead of arrows on the scrollers thing too.

What OS is the laptop running? The red x normally doesn't mean that the program isn't on the cd, it just can't be installed for some reason....could be a conflicting app, incompatibility with the system, newer version already installed, etc. You sure you don't already have Outlook on there preinstalled from an office suite or something? It doesn't always show up prominently in those cases. The next thing I would try is just using explorer to navigate to the setup.exe file in the Outlook folder and try installing directly from that.

I have it in BIS, too, but all I had to do was move the font files to \windows to fix the numbers/arrows problem. I left the reader in BIS. Copying the files worked, I'll have to remember to install into main memory next time, then activate, then move the .exe file to BIS.

WinXP Pro. When the list of stuff to be installed comes up, it shows that office tools will be installed but that Outlook is "not available" for installation. I tried the explorer trick, ran the setup directly from the Outlook folder, got the same "not available" message. I don't have Outlook installed anywhere on the laptop, I looked for it and it isn't there.
