Question X50 as a Verizon Cellphone??

Hello everyone. I appreciate this site. Keep up the good work!

I am looking at getting an X50 in the near future, but am frustrated with the idea of carrying a pda & cellphone together (it took me long enough to be willing to carry a cell phone--"fashion conscious," not techie challenged).

I've looked at the VIOP options, but don't commonly have wifi/broadband available to me. I have looked at the other threads dealing with "pda as a cell," but they mostly go the route of Sprint (because of their cool CF card) and I am tied to Verizon for a while.

So as the subject states, do I have any options using the X50 as a Verizon-compatible cell phone? Please be as thorough as possible with your information, as I am a bit new to pda/cell technology (although quite computer savvy).

Thank you for your time,
Seth Davis

Hi and welcome to Aximsite.

I use VoIP via Stanaphone and Skype. You have to be at a WiFi hotspot or on your own WiFi network. I don't know anything about Verizon, but what you can do is call Sprint, since you said they offer a VoIP CF option, and just set up a data plan with them, which they most definitely will let you.

If you'd rather have Verizon, then you need to call them up and talk to them directly. Good luck.

If verizon is GSM/GPRS cell service provider you just need to buy this neat little thing and put your SIM card in the device.

Hope this helps... and good luck

I did a little looking around and found this:

I don't think the wireless carriers support the new version of wireless yet, but I am not sure. Just thought it looked interesting.

If the plain GSM/GPRS CF card is $250, I'd hate to see the price of this thing.
