Memory Issue: - is there a way to release more memory?

Hi all,

I have encountered a memory problem with Pictures (program comes with OS). I opened a 1.5Mb photo from my SD card and I tried to zoom in 2x and then I got a out of memory error.

I have closed all the apps and magic button. There are no applications on the task list. The only background task I had is the Yishin PowerCheck (freeware).

Under memory it set 36Mb to storage and 14 was used (by what???) and 26Mb for Program and 13 was used (by what??) I had about 12.5Mb free memory before I open that photo using Pictures.

The problem is after I got the out of memory error and closed Pictures. I got only 1Mb free memory left. I have to soft reset to get the memory back.

Does anyone has a solution to solve this problem and does anyone has a good recommendation for Photo viewing application.

It's not just you - I've experienced the same thing opening even smaller pictures off of a CF card. These were pictures I took on my Nikon digital camera that were only 600-700K in size - The built-in picture viewer crashes when I try to zoom in on a photo. To test, I even tried copying a picture from the CF card to Main Memory (into My Documents \ My Pictures folder) and it STILL crashes if I try to zoom in too much.

As for a recommendation, the Resco Photo Viewer seems to do a good job but its a bit on the pricey side @ $24.95 (a trial version is available tho)

Anyone else know of any better /cheaper (free preferrably?) photo viewer programs?

Picture Perfect

I seem to have lees problems using picture perfect. Give it a shot. You can zoom in quite a bit, and although a bit slow less oftern do I get the out of memory error.

I just opened and zoomed way in on a 2MB file, no problems. Used Total Commander, clicked on file, and brought up Picture (a built-in program???)

I tried out XnView Pocket, it is free. Loading is pretty fast. I like file explorer interface with mini preview at the bottom.

By default, large photos will be reduced to fit to screen. It still gives me out of memory error when I try to view a 1.5Mb jpg (6Mpixel) photo in 100%. BUT.... it didn't lock up my memory after the error. I can close it and reopen it at zoom back at 75% (no error). Scrolling and Panning is pretty smooth while viewing the 1.5Mb photo at 75%. Also it support slide show.

One more thing, I am running it in true VGA mode. :)

Just more info.

The program is called "pictures". Don't know anything else. Maybe came with OS. There's no "about" option to see where it came from.
