Outlook 2003 / ActiveSync Contacts problem

Not sure if this is the correct forum for this question, but here goees anyway.

Got my X50V yesterday - love it. Got ActiveSync set up ok and everything is synchronising seamlessly.

However, in Outlook 2003, I have my Contacts set up into different folders.

i.e. The main root folder "Contacts" under my Mailbox I don't use. I use sub-folders within it such as:
- Personal (for friends & families)
- Miscellaneous (for shops, services etc)
- Work (for Work Contacts)

However, ActiveSync is only synchronising with the root Contacts folder and ignoring the sub-folders. I tried moving a Contact from one of the sub-folders into the root folder and it worked fine.

Please don't tell me that I can't work with my sub-folders, because that would be a nightmare. I don't want to mix all my Contacts together into one folder!

Help! anyone?

Sorry but ActiveSync and WindowsMobile only sync with the root directory.

Other users get around this by assigning categories to all their contacts.

You can actually do this fairly easily for each of your contacts using desktop Outlook.

- go to one of your folders
- then View>Current View> By Category
- highlight all the contacts (left click first, scroll down, hold down shift and left click the last one)
- anywhere on the highlighted area - right click
- Choose Categories

You can the add a category to all those users at once (probably use the name you currently use for the folder)

Repeat for each folder and then move all contacts into the root directory.

I have my Outlook set-up to show all contacts by Category and so I have a list of the categories (which is similar to folders) which expand to show all those contacts included within that category when clicked.

Thanks for the quick reply, but using Categories doesn't really help.

You see I use Categories already. For example, all my Works contacts are categorised into Business Types (and I have a lot of these).

The whole thing wil become very messy if I mix up all my personal contacts with work etc.

I AM NOT A HAPPY BUNNY! THIS IS A MAJOR FAULT WITH ACTIVESYNC!!! :realmad:

I have just synced my Outlook with my brand new X50v and noticed the same problem. I have multiple folders within Contacts and they will not sync with the Axim. Does anyone make a program to sync completely with Outlook? It works just fine with my Palm device.

I think Intellisync can do other folders. I use mine to have more complex filters other than category, but I think it can do what you need. Not cheap, though.

On almost the same thread...

Does anyone know how to blow away all the contacts in one easy move (including categories). I can do single deletes all day long but seem to have trouble with multiple deletes or a complete purge.

I need to do this because like those above me, I synched with the root of one PST file and I wanted to synch with another pst file (and folder). Now there is garbage in the list and I want to get it out and start over...

I am assuming this is on your Axim?

Click on the first one you want to delete, bring up the keyboard and click the Shift button, click on the last one and then delete them.

I had this problem. See this link for some excellent advice :- http://www.ipaqhq.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8956

I downloaded a trial version of Intellisync from :-
http://www.download.com/Intellisync/...-10320673.html

I followed the instructions from the Ipaq thread to the letter and then sync'd my PC with my Axim X30 and all was ok with my contacts.

The good thing that seems to have happened is that somehow (It wasn't me!) all of the contacts on my PC have been copied from the sub-folders (four, in my case) into the "root" folder. This means that I can simply use the ActiveSync program from now on without having to purchase any more software !.

I have tested it by entering new entries on my Pc and on my Axim and syncing and it seems to work ok. Fingers crossed !!!

Also, using the Intellisync product you can create 'filters'. I have put all of my work contacts in the "Business" catagory and all of my home contacts in the "personal" catagory. Then on each installation of Intellisync (home and work) I have created a filter so that only the appropriate information is sync'ed.
The Intellisync product allows you to use more than one rule in a filter, so if you the general catagory of "business" does not meet your needs then you can add rules to your filter to pick up multiple catagories.

Has anyone had this problem? Sounds and everything work fine except when it comes to the middle of my pocket pc. I tried changing the background but that didn't work.
