Internal Clicking?

Hello. I have been noticing this more and more lately. I believe I first noticed it when I turned Bluetooth on one day. As it initiated, a sort of clicking noise came from inside the handheld. I still hear that now and then when turning on Bluetooth. But just a few minutes ago (which made me write this thread) I was searching through the music on my CF card through Windows Media Player. Clicking on folders and scanning through, I kept hearing the clicking. It happens when opening something, not just sitting there. Is the expansion card being read (or "grasped" so to speak)? Anybody else experiencing this?

Thank you!

Can we assume that you know you can have your PPC make a click everytime you tap the stylus?

Hmmm... still, are sure it's not from the speaker? Maybe the BT radio is mucking things up....

Mine does the same thing. I'm only noticing it when I'm playing "Colors". It does it after the x50v is done with moving the dots. It's definitely NOT the normal speaker key-click.

just kinda weird since there are no moving parts inside, unless its possibly some sort of relay making contact.

Well, it has to come from the speakers. Nothing else moves or makes noise.

Do you still hear the noise if you turn off or mute the speaker?

It is almost guaranteed to happen when going through the CF card, opening filders, playing a music file, etc. When I hear the noise, I put the device next to my ear and I hear a spinning noise. Then, after a few seconds (approx. 3) the spinning stops ending with a click noise. It is a microdrive, does something spin in there?

Yep a microdrive is a miniature winchester drive just like a standard harddrive...platters spinning and heads moving back and forth...thats the click and whirr...if it didnt do that or made the dreaded sound of a yeti :) then you should be concerned :)

Well, I have definitely concluded that it was/is the microdrive causing the clicking. But it has become so common, that I am almost wondering if it is broken. When I first started using it, I never heard noises like this, even when transfering files to it on an external writer. When I hold it in my hand and shake it a little, a raddling comes from inside. Although, it still works good. Except I did just try to transfer Office Space and it gave me an error. I am ready to buy another CF, non microdrive.

Go to start/settings/ sounds and notifications. To enable/disable clicking sounds check off "Hardware Buttons" and then decide on loud or soft.
