x50 mid v x30 top -- touch and feel

i've also been struggling whether to purchase the x30 624 MHZ or the x50 520 MHz ... i've read a few reviews and both units have pros and cons, but since there is no dell store near me, i can't touch or feel one

from what i read, the x50 has a more ergonomic shape, but no jog wheel and smaller buttons than the x30 (this issue is dear to me becuase i have stubby fingers! so, not being able to touch a unit has REALLY hurt my buying decision process)

the x30 is slightly faster (624 MHz v. 50020 Mhz) ... the x50 has 2 expansion slots, and the x30 has 1 sd slot (but i will have to buy a new cf/sd card for either unit that i purchase) ... the x50 has an embedded wi-fi antenna that makes it a better shape, but 10% less reception than the x30 ... and the x50 has more built-in memory .. and, of course, the x30 is about $40 cheaper

but, since i can't really try one out, i'd appreciate comments from someone who has touched both

thanks

I had the x30 for a while before returning it and now I've got the x50v. The x30 just felt cheap compared to the x50. IMHO it looks like ass too. You do get some more bang for your buck with the x30, no doubt, but when that bang gives off the smell of turds, do you really want it?

Well I have the x50v and the x30h,, i must say they are basically the same except the obvious... the VGA screen and the dual SD/CF support of the x50v. the software is an updated version than the x30h, but its not really a deal breaker when comparing the 2 head to head. It all depends what u will be using your axim for, IMO I would get the x30h before i get the x50 mid.

X50 520MHz no doubt! The X50 520MHz is just a notch below the X30 624MHz in benchmarks tests in Chris' reviews which makes it still very fast plus you get all the options the X50v has besides the VGA screen and the 2700G Intel chip. :)

i'm glad i found somone who has used both ... do you find the x50 keys too small? do you miss not having a jog wheel? are there differences in battery consumption? also, since you have the x50v, do you think the vga results in a much clearer screen?

thanks

I *theoretically* miss the jog wheel. But in the x30, the jog wheel is too low on the side to be really usable. It's just in the wrong place. If it had been higher up the side of the device, I'd miss it.

Battery life - I can't tell for sure because I haven't tested the life of either one extensively. The life of the x50 battery does feel short, though.

And I would not ever change back to a qvga screen. I love my vga. If you can scratch up enough dough for the x50v, I'd do it.

The keys are about the same for me, Im asumming u mean the hotkeys and not the in screen keyboard, I must say i do miss the jogdial a lot, my thumb keeps going there only to be denied (I know i can remap the buttons, but its not the same as the old jogdial), the battery life is not as good the x30h, but i must say I can do a lot more on the x50v (playing movies) than i can do or would do on the x30h, and yes the screen is that much clearer on a vga screen. whenever i look at my x30h i can actually see the horizontal lines in the qvga screen, i dont think i ever noticed them before I got my x50v.

the jog wheel got me down after i ordered mine but i have it now and i just reprogramed the side buttons to be up and down and the calendar as my wifi button and the next button over i think contacts as my landscape mode i think i might like the buttons better than the jog wheel
