Sure, why wouldn't you be able to receive emails? What ISP are you using for email?

From what you described, my setup is identical to yours.

All I had to do was
* fire up the Messaging program (hit the button to the right of the directional button with the envelope icon on it)
* then go into the Accounts menu.
* Click on Accounts... then on New...
* enter my full email address and click [Next]
* Let it try to connect to your email server or click [Skip]
* Enter your name as will be displayed in the email's From section
* Enter the username used to log into your email account. Usually just the part of your address that comes before the @ but for some servers, it's the whole email address.
* Enter your password, click [X] Save Password and click [Next]
* Enter the account type. Most likely POP3, as that's most common.
* Enter a name for this account configuration. Can be anything and is just for your benefit. Click [Next]
* Enter your incoming mail server name. If your address were bob@server.com, chances are this would be something like mail.server.com or pop.server.com.
* Enter your outgoing mail server name. If your address were bob@server.com, chances are this would be something like mail.server.com or smtp.server.com.
* Domain is optional and is the domain name that'll be tacked on to any addresses you send mail to where you don't provide the "@server.com" part.
* Click on options and tell it to connect and check for messages periodically. How often is up to you. Tell it whether to use The Internet or Work. Click [Next].
* Page two of Options. Most of these can be left at defaults. Click [Next]
* Page three of Options. Defaults again unless you want to download full messages or larger portions thereof whenever it checks. (You can always tell it to grab a full message when you fo to read it later.) Click [Finish]

Now, if you exit the Accounts screen by clicking on (ok) and click on the envelopes icon at the bottom, it should connect and download your email

The Linksys isn't going to interfere with checking your email unless you seriously went out of your way to prevent mail traffic. Don't worry about that.

Get WebIS Mail for free from handango.com this week! If you're going to be doing email, you need to use a better email program. Can't beat free!

Maybe a bit off-topic but does anyone know a way of setting a precedence when there may be a number of different ways to acheive connection to 'the internet'?

For ex, if you have active sync, wireless, and bluetooth modem connections and wanted to choose them in that order.

shazzam - you got it :{)

actually it only connects over AS when that's available, then it uses WiFi (I believe that's what I'm seeing) and if that's not connected it'll try Bluetooth. The only
problem is you need them all turned on to do that and you're battery is then only
good for about an hour (well maybe a little longer).

I just decide what I want to connect with; turn it on; then it uses the available network link... automagically.

Great directions. I followed them and was able to set up my sbc yahoo and my gmail accounts. I can now toggle between them and outlook. I still have my sbc yahoo mail going to outlook which I had established some time ago. I may delete that since I can get it straight when connected by wifi.
